Samsung Galaxy S... highest spec Android phone released... also with QWERTY!

Im still on Darkys 9.5. I have thought about cooking a Docs ROM. Whats the MIUI is it stable and good. CM7 Not thought about. The thing I like about Darkys is when he says they are stable they 99.9% are. I have never has any problems with his ROMS.

If you want stable, you should probably go with a DocRom or just stick with Darky's. CM7 and MIUI (based on CM7) are not really touted to be stable yet.

I haven't tried it myself yet, but Darky has just released his first 'final' version of 10.0.

Early feedback looks very encouraging!

For me CM7 was really fast, Its just my g apps would just keep crashing and I tried to do another clean install again :S. Its fast but i found it a bit boring aswell and I missed some touchwiz things which really surprised me. MIUI i have to say is one of the best roms out, Looks really nice (Person bonus HAHA), it is really customized and has a lot of great features, like the music player is simply the best music player ive ever used better than any offered by android. Loads of themes and its really easy to switch between them. Notification bar is really nice. Loads over features I forgot HAHA.

Cool, well that's a shame the gapps didn't work for you. I've loaded the latest build of CM7 and gapps and absolutely flawless so far. The phone flies as well, nice overscroll anim, crt off, easy to switch themes (like MIUI) etc. MIUI just seems like CM7 with a nicer interface tbh. I may well give it a bash soon.

You can get the MIUI music player with the DocRoms if you cook one in the online kitchen. I've been using it for ages and I agree, it's a great music player! The only thing I couldn't figure out was how to sort songs by track number and not alphabetically. I use FLAC. Did you notice that?

Normally just play my music on random so never really checked that out, and I had a MIUI music player for awhile on darky rom but the one on the MIUI rom is different and a lot better hopefully thats the version that comes on DocRoms. Never really tired out DocRoms, didnt find a theme I really liked thats the main reason i stuck with darky for so long just liked the simple theme it had since the first time i saw it xD.

My SGS ****ed up when I've taken the sim out and put another one in a couple of times. Think I must had taken the battery out when it was still running, hence my problems.

I had to switch SIM cards around since I don't have a broadband connection for some two weeks and had to use mobile network to access the Interwebs.

The phone started crashing after I've put the old sim in for the second or third time, Launcher Pro on boot up, then Better Keyboard, ROM Manager and some other apps. Got to get rid of those but all my contacts and call logs went airborne and don't seem to be recoverable (one of the backups doesn't work, the other is too old to be of any use).

The apps still crash after I reinstalled them so I think it's a Recovery time.

Any ideas on what could cause such a **** up? The phone was updated to Froyo and used Lag Fix and default ROM, only rooted.

Also, is there any folder on the phone's memory where I could possibly recover the data from? I know that apps settings are still backed up but since they don't work, it's useless. There's some app that crashes on boot up, still, but it doesn't show any message so I can't possibly know what it is.

Right, well if you're pulling the battery when the phone is running I can see why that might possibly cause issues.

What kernel are you running? First backup what you do have. If you have Clockworkmod I'd suggest rebooting into it and clearing the cache partition and possibly dalvik cache.

You can also go to settings - applications - manage applications and locate any troublesome ones, then look in their options and clear their cache as well. Possibly even clear data if you're still having trouble (but you will lose the data!).

What data are you trying to recover exactly? You could install Titanium Backup and back up what you can.

Really though, it seems screwed up enough that you may be wasting time doing this and should just back up and flash a new rom clean. You could even go onto gingerbread now.

2.6.32.9 root@SEP-51 #1 (or is it just the number that I should read out? not really into the Unix stuff)

I think I must have pulled the battery out before it powered off (by accident, of course) since there is no other possible cause that I can think of that would trigger this behaviour.

Cleaning data of the corrupted apps doesn't work, as I said earlier, even reinstalling the apps didn't work. The backup was taken from the phone directly.

I would like to recover Contacts but that doesn't seem possible in any way.

I was going to upgrade to Gingerbread anyway but since I've got no broadband atm and my phone broke at the least convenient time, I was pretty ****ed at it.

I've already ruled out most apps that could trigger crashing, uninstalling them solved the problem.

Android Market lost all the apps as well, some other are still missing but I managed to recover them back into Market by clearing the data twice.

One app is crashing on boot up, still, is there any log to check what it is? There isn't any crash message popping up.

I don't know anything about Clockworkmod.

I don't care about backing up the data besides messages (already done), photos (yet to do) and that's about it. All I want is my Contacts back, if it's at all possible (and seems unlikely atm). I've got a backup on my other phone but some numbers seem missing anyway. Not sure if I lost anything else that I should/could be worried about.

Also, Samsung Kies sucks cocks.

On an unrelated note, are there any relatively slim stylish cases that can take a mediocre drop for this phone? I've got a Case Mate Tough, sturdy as hell but the phone looks like a brick with it on.

Are they not on your SIM as well?

Clockwork mod is accessible (if installed) when you use the 3 button combo to boot into recovery mode (i.e. with phone off, press volume up + home + power). You can clear stuff in there. Factory reset it and clear cache/dalvik cache and reboot once you're backed up. I don't know what else you can do about contacts if they're not on google or your SIM. Maybe titanium backup can back them up for you? You should give it a go.

Nope, every time I saved a contact on my phone, it was saved to my phone only. You get a prompt to either save it to your Google account (which I stupidly didn't most of the time), phone or SIM card.

Did clearing cache/dalvik cache, didn't help. Factory reset will get rid of all the data so that's a bit pointless.

Apps are corrupted since reinstalling them and clearing the data didn't stop the crashing.

Will try the Clockwork Mod again.

Damn man, that sucketh mucheth. :(

I always keep a copy of outlook installed and synch Google contacts with that too, so I have a backup of the cloud.

I'm stupid and didn't care much about it. Now I can't be bothered to try and get the contacts back.

Forever Alone once again.

Just ordered the SGS2!
Can't wait - HTC G2/Touch really starting to feel old and creaky.

Get out of the SGS thread, ****. You've got your own thread for lucky ****** who were patient enough to hold on for the SGS2 or had nuff money to upgrade :p

Had my SGS since the start of march and now the things refusing to charge, theres a little play in the socket and if I balance it just right it'll connect and charge, needless to say it's going back for repair / replacement just wanted to ask if anyone else had this issue ? it's been charged bi daily and whenever not on charge / sync the dust cover has been over.
