Samsung Galaxy S... highest spec Android phone released... also with QWERTY!

haha well actually just thinking if they did give me two, i'd assume that they mucked up more and put me on two contracts, so aslong as you pay me monthly i'll give you a discount ;)

Haha, I bet you would!

In other news, some VERY good news about the Galaxy S.

Its ROOTED! :D

http://android.modaco.com/content/samsung-galaxy-s-s-modaco-com/311731/galaxy-s-rooted-kernel/

Its not directly from Modaco but I'm sure Paul will adapt it over in no time!

This was one of my only reservations about getting one to go with my Desire.

Great news, I was praying we wouldn't have another X10 situation :p

Happy happy days! I should be getting mine in like an hour. (I bet you it's something i probably ordered ages ago, i can't remember what lol)

I'm happy it's rooted, even though i still don't fully understand it haha, i assume it's like "flashing" a phone, i did that on my old samsung omnia to get rid of the orange firmware.

Yep - from my limited understanding, you have to "root" a phone to gain full access to all its software internals. It's only then can you flash it (like you did before with your omnia) - this removes dependencies to the manufacturer (Samsung) and enables you to use the latest native Google Android releases (2.2 Froyo)

Got mine, and WOW what a phone!
Makes my iPhone look very very silly.

One issue though, I can't seem to Sync my google ao****. The Facebook and Twitter syncs fine - and when I set up the default email client, that works fine (also my gmail account)

Any idea what the issue might be?

edit: working now after a few retries :D

How on earth have they rooted the Galaxy S already and still not the X10?

because sony have locked it down like fort knox

according to paul@modaco and other devs SE completely rewrote the android filesystem and then just to make things interesting added 128bit security. seem to of patched up every single android explot too. even when newer phones arent bothering too

Indeed, why on earth Sony and HTC are doing things like this I dont know, its just stupid really. Then again it only bothers a small % of the market!

Oh well :p

HTC have not done the same though, they have increased security in the Desire but the Desire was still rooted and now has a risk free root method as well.

The only thing that can't be done is write to the /system/ area while the OS is running. All perfectly possible within recovery however so basically it's no different to any other Android phone with root, just the additional step of running /system/ changes in recovery.

Ok ben playing with this phone for some time now, one word is that it's so awesome. Typing from it now using swype which once I have got used to it can see how quick it is! One question though, I've installed launcher pro but it hasnt changed anything!? Do I just need to restart the phone I guess!? This phone rules!!

Have you pressed your home button and set it as you default launcher?

I know they haven't done the same, but they've still made it more awkward than it should have been.

We can only hope they dont persist and fart about like Sony :(

Ahh ok its done. This is to nice of a phone for me! With launcher pro on there is a little head on the main screen which I assume is for contacts but it says I don't have that application installed!?

Surely they will eventually figure out how to root the X10?

I think "eventually" sums up my X10 for a few things :p

Like with all Android phones, volume all the way down then once more for vibrate, once up for silent.

Or hold the power button and choose.

You don't have mode "profiles" like on older phones.
