Samsung Galaxy S... highest spec Android phone released... also with QWERTY!

I don't like using custom roms so unless theres an official release I'll be on Gingerbread forever more.

Bit of a random one but i'm currently using 2.3.4 firmware I9000XXJVQ. I'd like to go back to an official Gingerbread firmware, what is the best way of going about doing this? Will I be able to do it via Kies? Or will I have to flash a rom using Odin?

I can get into recovery mode/download mode but when I tried to update to the latest official Rom linked above I still couldn't get passed the splash screen! Also when I tried to do a wipe of all the data it asked for a password, is this a default password? as I have never set one for this before :s

were you coming from 2.3 or 2.2? you probably just need a different... er... PIT? file. Been a while since i did it. One was for flashing the bootstrapper, i remember that much.

At the moment I believe 2.3 is on the phone, but still can't get passed the splash screen after trying to flash the 2.3.6 version w1lliam suggested. Is there a place/way of flashing a completely stock rom, the link provided earlier wasn't very clear as to what files were needed :(

Trying to set up WiFi hotspot on this phone so I can share the connection with my tablet but im having terrible trouble with the signal strength of the hotspot, it barely registers on my tablet and disappears from the list of access points quite readily. Has anyone had similar problems?

Not at all, not when I was running 2.3.5 and not on ICS either. I take it you've rebooted? If so it might be a rom issue, and might need reinstalling or use the latest one.
