Samsung Galaxy S... highest spec Android phone released... also with QWERTY!

I'm after ways of trying to backup my saved SMS, as I've many. As I'm not able to connect to the Andriod Market (I thought that I could do via WIFI?). What other ways can I go about backing my saved SMS? as Kies doesn't offer this backup to PC like it does with contacts/music/pictures etc.

I'm wanting to update my Galaxy S to the latest, available firmware (currently using 2.1). First off, I want to back up my contacts, which I've done via Kies. Now I'm wanting to update a lot of saved SMS, I understand to do this I need to download an app from the market place? The only problem is, is that I can't access the market place, it won't connect.

I've only got a PAYG sim in this phone, as it was given to me by my gf, as she upgraded, so I don't have any data or owt like that. I was under the impression that I'd be able to access the market via my home WIFI?

Any other suggestions on how to back up all my SMS?

Cheers

I take it you can't connect to the Android market via WIFI?

Why arent i able to connect to the market then? It keeps saying it cant establish a connection itd annoying!

I take it you can't browse the web through the browser on your home wifi either?
Because if you can then I'd does not make any sense. Also you can export your contacts to the sd card and then copy it to somewhere safe.

No, I can browse the web perfectly fine, but when I try to log into the Android market, it won't do so.

If you want to backup up your messages. Then voila. It's a free app on the market, I just uploaded for your use.

Also go to the xda page and flash the latest rom, JVT, via Odin. It's much simpler.

Wizz, try going Settings > Manage applications. Find the Market App, and then delete any updates that may have been installed.

Have you setup an account on the phone?

That's what I'm trying to do. I try to make an account, by entering my name then make up a username, then the phone does a 'Checking username availability', after about a minute I then get this message 'Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server' :/

Just create a google account on google or gmail on your pc.

Try making an account on the web, rather than through the phone. Or go into recovery and wipe the cache. But only do it if you know what you're doing.

Created a google account and tried signing in, on the phone. It still won't let me log in, I just get the same 'Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server'.

Turn off the phone.
1. Press and hold Volume Up + Home Key
2. Continue holding those buttons and then press and hold power.
3. When you see the logo pop up release power ONLY
4. Keep holding two buttons from step 2 until you enter recovery mode.
5. Wipe cache and dalvik cache. DO NOT WIPE DATA/FACTORY RESET.
6. Reboot.
7. Try logging in again

I'm trying to transfer the 'SMS+Backup+&+Restore-58.apk' using the Kies software but all I get is 'SMS+Backup+&+Restore-58.apk has a file format that cannot be played on GT-9000'.

What am I doing wrong? I'm such newbie when it comes to mobiles.
