Samsung Galaxy S... highest spec Android phone released... also with QWERTY!

Cheers, although I went with DarkyROM 10.2.2 in the end, which is based on 2.3.4. Seems ok, although the battery life is a little worse than before despite that being one of its main features.

Anyone know what ROM will give me the best battery lift?

I'm currently running teamhacksung's version of ICS and it's pretty stable but the lack of ram is a concern, after a few hours it's about 70mb free so samsung are right in that a touchwiz version of ICS is not going to work well and will lag like hell. But my galaxy tab has more free ram when on GB and ICS so it shouldnt be an issue. Glad that they're rethinking the issue though.

They should just release the AOSP source for the SGS then its up to the community to support it :)

I dont think they can, i cant remember the details correctly but i think it had something to do with samsung not owning the original sources/drivers for specific components which means the dev's have to create drivers creating a long testing period. You just have to look at cyonagenmod for the galaxy series, its pants when you compare it to HTC mobiles which all have builds that are far more complete or RC status.

I've been looking at this Onecosmic ICS ROM and quite tempted as it seems pretty functional. However the installation instruction put me off. Install a Cyanogen or MIUI ROM (which requires as certain method) then flash again in CWM. The wipe everything, then flash the ICS ROM. Lot of faff (and for me background reading to work out how to do it) but I guess it's worth it?
Currently running Simplicity ROM on 2.3.4

been running this rom 4.0.3 RC1 since this morning, tried it the other day but it would just boot loop.

Had another go today, had cm7 on, booted into recovery, installed it , would boot loop. so i flashed it again and it booted up ok, wi fi wouldnt work but theres a kernel link on the 1st page that fixes that, just put the rom and update on your card, should be fine.

Been out of the loop for a while. Newest stable, bug free stock rom?

Is CM7 decent for battery and stability now? Is it complete? Nightly or stable 7.1?

Not that fussed about ICS until it's ready. Thanks for any help with this.

Tried the new version, build 12, of the ICS on the sgs and it runs really well. Build 11 would occasionally lag but i'm having none of these issues with the latest version. Check it out.

Every Samsung rom has been a slow, laughable shambles from my experience on the Galaxy S.
Can't wait until the online community sort out all the issues with their ICS releases. They really are the saviours of this phone.

I put Build 12 of the Team Hacksung ICS on mine this morning and it's absolutely great apart from one thing - whenever I try and go to the Gallery app, play music or set my SMS or phone ringtone, I get this error:

Unfortunately, the process android.process.media has stopped

and I can't get any further. Anybody else had that? Other than that, it's absolutely sweet ...

EDIT: Just needed another factory reset after installing ICS ... duh!!!

I'm currently running build 11 of teamhacksung ICS and it's great appart from a few niggles here and there. Cannot get navigation to work at all, I start the app and it crashes with no error message. 720p video recording is very jerky as well. Going to try build 12 tomorrow and see if it helps. If they can iron out some of the bugs, it will be very slick.

If it helps I used this topic Here I came from Darky rom 10.2 I think. Make sure you remove your external SD before you flash, otherwise you end up with boot loop after restart.
