Samsung Galaxy S... highest spec Android phone released... also with QWERTY!

RC3 of onecosmics ICS ROM is out and its bloody amazing.

I rooted 2.3.5 JVT and installed it from CWM, media crashed a little on first boot but since then its been perfect. Benchmark in AnTuTu increased 300 points as well without any overclocking

I've been playing with the LCD density apps today, had a good result, I only changed it a little from 240 to 220 (I think?) It works well, but the stock Android Calculator and Dialpad and keyboard don't 'resize' properly. Other apps like the Swype Keyboard and webrowser are fine.

Is this a limitation of the Samsung TouchWiz stuff? Anyways around it (rather than using 3rd party calculator/dialer/etc?

:)

after being in the market for so long, how do you find the build /materials quality? talking aboutg scratches, cracking noises from pastics etc

Had mine since release and it's been fine. It is in a flip case so it's covered most of the time but it seems robust enough. No scratches on the screen and plastics are pretty much the same as when new. Obviously without a case it depends on how you treat it but that's same with most phones.

Had mine fo 16 months now with no screen protector and it looks like new to be honest. While I'm here though has anybody downloaded the Keith Lemon mouthboard app? For me it says the device is not supported and I'm on Gingerbread.

Not yet but I'm just in the process of updating to the 2.3.6 (value pack) firmware that was released at the end of Dec then I'm going to upgrade to ICS. Once all that is out of the way I might take a look at the KL mouthboard app :)

Probably getting off topic now but my update to 2.3.6 and rooting went ok but installing ICS didn't. Ended up with a reboot loop. Solved by entering download mode and updating again to 2.3.6

Used the teamhacksung rom so will try Onecosmic and see how that goes.

I updated to OneCosmic RC3 last night.
It's a good bit faster than the 2.3.5 rom I had on previously, the keyboard seems a good bit more accurate and it's just a lot smoother to use.
Unsure how battery life will be, can update tonight. Hoping it is decent as I really like ICS!

Edit: Battery life seems reasonable, decent amount of usage yesterday but made it back from work with about 45% battery left.
Can not believe how much better the phone is to use!
Definitely recommend testing the OneCosmic rom.

Notice quite a few more ICS roms out now, I'm on OneCosmic 3.1 but think I'll be throwing 4.1 on this week. Anyone else had decent experiences on the others?

It really is like a completely different phone on ICS, definitely not looking to upgrade for a good while now. :)
Only issue I've had is the music playing from the SD card draining battery fairly quick. :( Think that's down to SD card not being read correctly on the 3.1? (Can detect the free space, not the kind of files that are on it...)

My wife has just announced that she's upgraded her Sim (used in a SF with no data) with Talk Mobile but they've put her on a new plan which is 200 mins, 5000 texts & 500 meg data and are charging her £8 which is £2 less - SCORE.
She then says that they offered her a free SGS for only £12 with 1 gig data but she said no
I've told her she is getting a much better phone for £96 (2 year contract) but says she prefers the smaller layout of the SF.
She's got a week to change her mind so help me out OCUK, why should she go for the SGS?

i tried CM9 ALPHA for Galaxy S (BUILD 15) , had it on for nearly 2 weeks, it's not on anymore, people were saying they had rung me, and id ignored them etc, lol.

The phone didnt make a sound or anything, very odd.

Gone back to gingerbread.
