Samsung NC10

They come with a hidden recovery partition also a full XP install disc and what looks like drivers/utilities.

Thanks for the quick reply.

This thing just keeps sounding better and better...just wish I could get my grubby mits on one...

It's very good generally except for the Speaker/sound quality compared to a 901/1000 also there seems issues with the mousepad software..stops and starts and thinks it's in scroll mode !, 3 units I tried all did the same.
(it's not the hardware as everything was fine when running outside of windows)

Had a quick look through the thread and didn't see it but how does the NC10 compare to the 901. Should I be thinking about swapping or sticking with the 901??

Cheers

I was wondering if the continuous running of San Andreas (as posted earlier somewhere :P) would cause overheating and/or permanent damage?

I got a white one coming on tuesday w00t!

Just how it compares generally, like I said should I be thinking of swapping my 901 for the NC10 because it is loads better or should I stick with the 901??

No You miss the point, I understand You 100% but what is important to You and I will tell You If it's better, My overall opinion counts only for Me ;)
example...
Comparing Speaker Sound quality the 901 blows the Samsung away and that is very important to Me but may not be for You.

The Samsung Has lots of niggles coming from a 901 ,no light on charger or camera, stupidly stiff USB ports and poor Mousepad

The Samsung Has the best internal design of all the netbooks with the chipset and Cpu heatsinks adjacent to the cooling fan You could run this Netbook at 100% all day long

comparison between 901, wind and samsung running temps..

CPU 44-57 44-62 43-55 min-max C
System 50-61 44-59 42-55
Harddrive 37-42 35-39
Being as the wind was about the best around You can see how good the Samsung is

Well my biggest bug bear with the 901 is the keyboard, the trackpad isn't the best I've used, the screen is ok but an extra inch I guess would be better. Speakers not too bothered as they're only really used when the little one is watching her cartoons and I'd mostly use earphones with it.
I got the 20GB linux version and put XP on it myself but I'm not convinced the stripped down version I put on using nlite is perfect so having XP preinstalled is better. Also I upgraded my 901 with 2GB RAM so being able to do that with the NC10 would be good.

Screen quality is better on the Asus (I know smaller screens look better) but side by side with the wind the Asus is the same as the wind with the colours not as good on the Samsung....but discount that as You would never know without high quality material and a side by side comparison, So screen size is great improvement

Think You will not like the trackpad on the Samsung if You thought the Asus was bad :)

Keyboard Is pretty much perfect on the Samsung

2gb upgrade is pretty much a waste of time on the little netbooks

surely the extra ram would help with XP, i know its nothing like vista when it comes to hunger for ram but surely a little more is always better especially as its so cheap.

More on the 901 as SSD's Must not use a Page file (You did disable that on Yours ?) so as not to wear out the drive
Unless You have 20 web pages open while playing video etc You will not notice, windows has a habit of squandering excess memory ;)

That said, If it makes You feel better it's cheap enough but I think although it's the same memory the Samsung has 2 slots, CPUZ reports that, I need to check to be 100% though

I have disabled the pagefile on my 901, also free'd up space. If the NC10 has 2 slots that means it'll be even cheaper to upgrade to 2GB by only having to install a 1GB module. Sweet. I wish I could've waited to get the NC10 but I was moving so forced me to get the 901. Now I'm thinking of ebaying the 901 and getting the NC10, the Mrs is gonna kill me.

If you can sell your 901 for a reasonable price you wont lose much, the NC10 is only ~£300. Go for it I say, unless the niggling issues above going to annoy you.

Personally for me the bigger keyboard more than makes up for a small touchpad.

To owners of the NC10: How is the multi-touch on these netbooks? (I've heard it supports this)

That works fine....Just normal pointing is bad on the Ones i've used....anyone else ? The size is not a problem and the buttons are nice and light

Yeah I agree that the only problem really with the NC10 that I've found so far is the tracking pad. It works most of the time but on occassions goes a bit crazy and it is very small (to accomodate the large keyboard) the twin button thing is cool though and easy to use.

Oh yeah, also the speakers are rather rubbish lol. Apart from that: Awesome!!!

I agree.
I was looking for any excuse to upgrade my 1000H to 2Gb as it's such a cheap and easy upgrade but it doesn't get close to using it's 1Gb for me.

I'm typing this reply with 8 other IE windows open, Word 2003 and movies running in both Media Player and Quicktime and I'm still only using 488Mb of ram.
