Samsung NC10

single 2gb pc5300 or pc6400 ddr2 200pin sodimm :)

Does it matter whether its 5300 or 6400? I read somewhere that it only supports up 667mhz which is 5300 but can take 6400 will just run at lower speed. Could there be a bios update to support 800mhz? Not very clued up on the workings of RAM! :o
I can get them for the same price so just really want one that will be 100% compatible i suppose!!!!

Cheers :D

Aswell as keeping the laptop off whilst its shut, you can also press Fn+F5 to turn off the backlight, that'll save plenty of power..

thanks for that cool tip very handy incase i want to quickly pretend i'm not doing something...;)

I've been doing some uni work today, running matlab, crunching some numbers.

and ive noticed that no program ever uses more than 50% of the cpu... then tonight, facebook chat and many windows open.. firefox struggled, but again, maxing out at 50.

Its able to use over 50% in total, but is there some default option limiting cpu usage for each process?

what power saving modes does your sammy have, maybe its in some eco mode. Does it delay before opening something.

whats the ram usage? the more you open the less workspace your system has, in the end laggin up the system.

try running something stressful like a old game or prime95 for 2seconds.. see if the cpu goes to 100% ever.

maybe your asking bit too much from your little netbook :)

Sounds strange. Do you know what mode your NC10 is running in? Silent, Normal or Turbo? Pressing the Fn + F8 key simultaneously should let you know. The former two modes run the CPU at 798MHz (Turbo is the full 1.6GHz) but that still doesn't explain why you can't max out the CPU. Unless that is what Silent mode does, because I still can't work out what it does.

Might have been mentioned already, best way for removing fingerprints and general grease from the lid? I tried a glasses cleaning cloth and that didn't seem to want to lift it off...

It's a dual threaded processor - i'm guessing any application can only use one thread at a time, albeit max that thread out?

Apparantly a good way of making sure you don't get finger prints is car polish.

And the difference between normal and silent mode is that silent mode increases the temperature that the fan switches onto to 60degrees.
High performance mode increases the priority of the current application and gives it more resources.

Anyone got some advice on this? Much appreciated if you do :)

If you're buying the sticks which are rather popular on a rival electronics e-tailer at the moment, then I've purchased the 6400 one and it's currently residing very happily inside my NC10. 100% compatible.

Marvellous!! :D Many Thanks

EDIT: Been looking at Kingston 2GB DDR2 SO DIMM 200-pin 800MHz CL5. There is CL6 for about £1 cheaper. Will i notice any difference? Also Crucial is around the same price. Is that a better bet? Both do lifetime warranty. :)

Depends what price you're paying. I paid £11.99 including delivery for PNY PC6400 / 2GB / 800MHz / DDR2 / 200pin SoDIMM Laptop Memory. Can't ask for much more than that for the money.
