Samsung NC10

I have not had my NC10 for long and I'm thinking about installing vista onto it. Would you say its worth the hassle, does it run ok on these notebooks? Is it going to be a problem finding the drivers etc to get it going?

runs fine on mine, no slower than xp for netstuff which i guess a netbook is for lol

When I reinstalled XP I copied and pasted the contents of the driver CD to a USB stick (the driver cd in explorer mode has lots of folders with numbered folders in it). Then I went through manually and installed what I needed, handily each folder has a text file with a description of the software to filter out the junk.

Well I loaded Vista onto my Sammy netbook no problems at all using the USB flash drive method. :D

For anyone thats interested you can get most of the drivers for Vista from here: http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Notebook/Driver_Model.aspx?ProductID=2835

Only thing thats puzzling me is I dont seem to be able to turn the brightness down on the screen as the Samsung battery manger dont work. Anyone else got any suggestions for an alternative?

:)

You will need Easy Display Manager to get your Fn buttons working. This should give you your volume/brightness functions back.
I didnt bother with Battery Manager as Vista comes with Mobility Centre for controlling power settings.

Hey guys

needs some information about my NC10

I download lots of things on my computer overnight while i am asleep. Im trying to find out the best way to do this power wise and to make sure the screen isnt on as that will make my room so light at night lol

I know that if i close my laptop screen all the way down it wont turn off the computer but it will just lock it and put it on hibernate mode i think that means it turns off and closes all my applications which are running such as my internet connection untill i open the screen back up and press the power button to turn itself on quickly to its normal state. so that wouldnt work at all for me!

or maybe plug it into the mains and just turn the screen off using the control pannel and turn it back on in the morning?

what are you ideas

thanks in advance

if you go to display settings>screen saver>power

then go advance and you and decide what you want to happen when you close the lid down.

i have it do nothing, so i can close my lid, screen off but everything continues to run!
sounds like what you want!

Aswell as keeping the laptop off whilst its shut, you can also press Fn+F5 to turn off the backlight, that'll save plenty of power..
