Samsung NC10

was your previous one 5400rpm? just wondering if you notice much difference in battery usage now its a faster HDD. :)

yeah was 5400, have noticed a slight loss in battery but nothing to worry about stil get 6 hrs + on it :D
ive also partitioned it to 30gb windows and the rest storage.

what do you mean by that? i can never understand why people would wanna take 30Gb's or so from there orignal hard drive space and put it somewhere else

he means that he's split the drive into 2 virtually seperate drives, so he can keep his program/windows files are seperate from everything else.

as will expert said it means i can keep everything seperate from my OS and programs and also makes defrag so much faster, i dont understand why someone would wanna keep all their eggs in 1 basket.

any real need to reformat buy 2gb i wont be upgrading from xp home.

gotta say royale noir is lovely.

^ Would this harddrive work you reckon? :)

looks sweet hope your enjoying it :D

And yeh i also dont keep any of my data on my C: everything is saved and accessed directly from another partition or harddrive. So if windows goes **** up ill only lose some game saves and anything i have on desktop which aint much. ive lost 100gb of tunes before, that aint happening again!!! lol

i would say that hdd would work fine, i dont have nor notice the increase in noise and dont notice much of a lose in battery life.
if you look back on page 17 of this thread you will see myself and another ocuk'er with hd tune test etc.
might help you abit in choosing

Has anyone tried an SDHC card in the card reader? I know someone had an SDHC adapter stuck in, but just curious to know if it will be happy with 4 or 8GB (class 4 or 6) Sandisk SDHC card. Want to get a high capacity SDHC and future proof myself (slightly!) for when I get around to looking at SLRs.

4GB an 8GB SDHC work fine here. The cards stick out a fair bit from the case though, so I don't leave them permanently inserted, which is how they were on my XPS1530 I just gave away.

Overpowered for my needs so I gave it to some little cousins for their college use. Was an awesome laptop though!

How much power has this thing got? I'm looking for a small portable laptop (or netbook and I like the look of this one) to do a bit of web editing on. It may need to run XAMPP (MySQL/Apache) with FireFox and NotePad++ - Would this grind to a halt, or run ok still?

I have not had my NC10 for long and I'm thinking about installing vista onto it. Would you say its worth the hassle, does it run ok on these notebooks? Is it going to be a problem finding the drivers etc to get it going?
