Samsung NC10

Blue NC10 arrived this morning and first impressions are good, I have a Sony TZ21 (being picked up today for repairs coincidentally) and the NC10 is a tad thicker and heavier but looks the part. Build quality seems pretty good, only thing I have noticed is the lid isnt as stiff as other laptops, although that's not really a problem just odd to pick a laptop up and have the lid flop forwards!

Just waiting on 2GB stick to arrive then I'll crack on with installing Windows 7 and report back.

Its 5300 I believe and the panel is quite easy to take off, just don't strip the screw head and use a credit card to pry the hatch open :)

Does the Samsung NC10 and Acer Aspire One use the same memory ?

Did a compatiblity check on another site

For the Samsung

Part #: CT909595 • DDR2 PC2-6400 • CL=6 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR2-800 • 1.8V • 256Meg x 64 •

And for Acer

Part #: CT868498 • DDR2 PC2-5300 • CL=5 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR2-667 • 1.8V • 128Meg x 64 •

Has the samsung only got 1 slot ?

i know this netbook is not meant for games but as i've seen it running some games surprising well (vice city, spore etc) i was wondering if anyone had tried lord of the rings online on it, i cant seem to find anyone who has tried yet.

so if anyone here has tried let me know how it runs and if you have upgraded to 2gb ram and/or are running windows vista/7

Lotr Online utilises the Turbine engine. Given that my old 6800GT struggled to power the engine back during the game's release I doubt the intel gma chipset will do much, even at lower res's.

i was just about to ask the same question

just put lotro back on my pc now i got 4870 and get 60-100 fps with everything maxxed i'm going to try it see what happens...

don't need 2gb for win7 mine runs better in win7 with only 1 gig...

But 2GB doesn't hurt at all and benefits multitasking especially for £25...

Anyway, I tried out multitouch and found it to be pretty useful!

Will it void warranty to add more ram and also can i get spare battery for this? Just looking one to take abroad with me in a few months so i can access internet and store some pics, music and vids.

Thanks

Warranty would not be void since you're not taking the unit apart to void warranty, you're just removing the RAM upgrade panel to upgrade the RAM and nothing more.

Batteries are available too yes but at £74 for a 7800mAh one!

If I recall, the user manual actually describes how to upgrade the memory so I cant see how they could advise otherwise.

On a different note, I noticed Windows Update for Vista listed new Atheros wireless drivers (Dec 2008).

This just clearly show us that the Samsung NC10 isnt designed at all for Multitouch, the fingerpads way too small, and its really slow to load up the pictures aswell.

Just Stick to XP, its what it was designed for, and it runs the fastest.

Well, it does come with XP and not Windows 7.

It's slow to load the picture because I was loading a 10megapixel photo over wireless LAN.
