Samsung NC10

So... I got my NC10 today. Currently installing Windows 7. Anything I need to know about drivers etc. on 7? I copied the contents of the Samsung Software disk (containing driver installs), so I assume I'll be alright?

You don't need to install any drivers on Windows 7, just the display manager app to enable the Fn keys and OSD.

Awesome, thanks. I assume the display manager is on said disk somewhere?
It's on the samsung website under nc10 downloads.

*edit* Might as well say this. I tried a 7200rpm 500gb drive in my nc10 when they first came out and I couldn't tell any difference in speed from a 5400rpm 500gb drive. This doesn't happen in my m1730 where there is quite a difference between the two. So I just stuck with the 5400 as I get a better battery life, less vibration and less noise.

Installed my Wireless N Card today with an additional aerial and noticed a big difference moving from 54Mbps to 130Mbps and a great range, so well chuffed.:D

Not sure, currently sat next to the Router as well, a Belkin N1 Vision. I am connecting through O2 Connection Manager Software, with MAC address filtering enabled and WPA2 Authentication on the Router.

Sounds like it could be it as I had it set to both WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK and with AES/TKIP so just set it to WPA2-AES as suggested. Lets hope all the other Devices I have connected still work, the Nokia 5800 does but not tried the PS3. Just waiting for a download to finish and I'll give it a try.

BTW where abouts in Cyprus are you? I have a place in Paphos just off Priamou Street.

I'm at Akrotiri, I'm in the forces. Don't know Paphos really so don't know the street your on about.
The PS3 will connect fine and so should most if not all of your other devices.

Finally got mine connecting to N speeds now, 130Mbps but will change a few settings to get 300

Edit*

And there it is! Had to set wireless channel width from 20MHz to Auto (20/40).

According to the NC10 it's connected at 300Mbps, the other devices I have are 54G and they connected fine at 54G too so looks like I managed to sort it in the last few days when I did a complete wipe of the router and manually set all settings back.

I did notice however though that the CPU usage is 100% when sending large files over the wireless on the NC10, core 1 is 100% causing the speed to hover around the 6.9mb/sec mark.

Oh well, will have to keep the N card for the next gen netbook :p

Mine was excellent. I've had lots of different laptops over the years, and this was the best in terms of value for money by a long way. It was fairly nippy at the day to day stuff, had plenty of features and accessibility but the best thing was the battery life. I would quite often get 6 hours unders XP and 4-5 under Vista.

I preferred my old Sony Vaio for sheer portability and flexibility, (that came with a DVD drive for example) but that was a couple of years ago now before this type of pc really existed in the mainstream. Nothing really comes close at the moment. They also appear to hold their value quite well too which is always nice for pc hardware. I paid £309 for mine last year, and sold it for £270 last week.

One point of interest however, it really needs 2GB ram.

Anyone who has wireless N do you see high CPU usage when transferring large files when connected at 300Mbps ?

I see at least 65% cpu usage which causes the cursor to skip and of course transfer speed to drop!

I know this is the nc10 thread but.... Would any of you advise against the purchase of an nc20?

The main reason i was picking it over the nc10 is that it has the higher resolution.

Reading all the reviews it seems like its perfect for what i want, was thinking about ordering it tomorrow.

I was also considering getting the NC20 up until recently. From everything i've read about it, it seems to be a very capable laptop. I was also looking at it for the higher resolution but have now decided to go for something a bit more powerful (Samsung Q320). If i was still looking at something with a netbook level of power then i would definately choose the NC20 purely for the extra screen real estate.

There's a good forum here with plenty of info about it.

Well if i went for the NC20 then i'd also get 2GB ram upgrade and a usb dvd drive. On the big river website this comes to £420 and the Q320 is £650, so quite a bit less than double.

The NC20 is definately a good option, i just think a 'proper' laptop will last me the length of uni whereas a netbook may be outdated sooner.

For uni I'd go with a full notebook over a netbook. They have their own optical drive built in for example, higher resolution and are generally more powerful. Netbooks are great for ultraportability, but I'd never recommend them to anyone as a main computer (which it will be at uni).
