Samsung Odyssey 49" OLED G9 G95SC

I got this monitor on monday spent last 2 days gaming as off work... ITs going back once my Alienware 32in 4k OLED arrives on friday. this Samsung is just awful , but only awful for the constant black screens , freezing games. so many cables tested , unplugging and plugging back in Dp and HDMI cables, setting from 32.9 to 16.9 ratio 80% of the time fixed the issue but playing online like BOPs 6 was just a no go when it would freeze and then black screen. unpluging power for 3-8 mins worked. i just cant keep doing this. disable gsync , disable game mode and use it as 120hz still caused issues. on latest firmware. Paid £850 with Birthday code direct. got the Alienware 32 4k 240hz for £70 less and thats with the 3 year exchange pro thats also on offer. Ive got the bigger brother 57in samsung thats used for sim racing so its not like im missing out just the 57in is fixed at 120hz and not the advertised 240hz due to having RTX4090 120hz is fine for racing sims. aldo wish i had got the 93 and not the 95 a the tv menu really spoils this monitor. its amazing to look at and screen is great but the txt is really iffy also.

Sorry to hear that. A lot of people had the black screens but I think the latest firmware helped. I havent had any with my G93.

I had to buy a decent hdmi cable, but after that it was fine for me. I had an expensive belkin cable but the solution was a reasonably priced “Gioteck 8k HDMI Cable For PS5 & Xbox Series X/S” which they had in stock at a local supermarket

@Personality+

Really appreciate the thread. Just got mine last night it's the G93c and it's pretty impressive out of the box.

If you could share any profile that would be great so I can have a play around.

As much as I love OLED and the ultra wide, I don’t think I’d ever buy another Samsung monitor, same as tv.

I’m now getting flashing black screen on hdmi every few mins, before it was just on dport.

Gonna order another cable in case this is a naff one.

Just came across this thread as I recently copped the g95sc for a great price brand new on clearance (900 AUD)

Great image, but boy am I in for a ride black screens and signal detection issues and this is day 3 XD. Will update here if I figure anything out firmware is 1340 or something I think (old).

It’s a PITA but once it’s sorted you’re laughing. If you have an Nvidia card you can hack in 3440 (or 3880) x 1440, and for the black screens it seems to be the HDMI cable that’s make the difference. We have a cheap place that shifts that kind of stuff in our supermarkets that does a great cable for not much. I tried Belkin and was disappointed at a premium price, so best of rolling the dice on that one.

Made the switch to hdmi after dp was giving artifacting in hdr in some cases. Then got some dropouts via hdmi so lowered to 120hz seems okay for now...

I'd rather 120hz than no vrr personally, couldn't hit 240hz in games anyway but the less smooth desktop experience now is a bit sad :(

It's a nightmare delving down the cable standards hole. I found the only flawless 240Hz experience was to purchase a fiber Display Port cable which surprisingly have dropped price significantly since two years ago.

Has anyone found any games that don't stretch out the screen at the edges? I've got a card that can handle processing the extra resolution so feel cheated when all the games I've tested seem to quadruple the width of objects at the edge with no setting to adjust.

Yeah I am now 0/3 on hdmi cables for 240hz vrr, the giotek one recommended here had a few dropouts, and two local official hdmi 2.1 ones which were thicker and shorter one was ok for a bit. One was really bad even tho was still "certified" with the holographic sticker and all.

I now moved my comp on the desk and am using the included micro to hdmi super short cable. So far so good but too soon to say. If it lasts a week+ I will be happy but again if i drop to 120hz i can even use a dingy old 2.0 cable and it works no issues for 2+ weeks. My brain....

Also included displayport which I tried first had some artifacting in hdr in some games...
