Samsung U28D590 mini review

So let me ask again now that you've had it a bit and the glow of a new purchase has (maybe) worn off...

How is the picture quality from game to game compared to an IPS or PLS or even other TNs if you've had those experiences?

I have experienced a high end 1440P IPS and a 120Hz 1080P and this Sammy knocks spots off the pair of them.

I will back this up, anyone who dismisses this screen "because TN" is bonkers, the viewing angles are marginally less good than my IPS, but in every other way the Sammy is as good or better

What does this look like if you run it at 1080p...downscales well? Sorry if already asked....

Very good, obviously not as good as when set to native, but still better than an equivalent 1080p monitor, you can still get up close and not get any screen door effect that you would get with a native 1080 monitor at the same size/distance

Great...if I manage to buy my new house I think I may treat myself to one of these.....

engrish menu

Hey gregster, one more thing I cant seem to find out how to change menu to engrish mate? mines due in tomorrow and would be handy to know.... thanks very much

Press the button at the back and go up and click.
Goto the 3rd option down (three little sliders icon) and click that.
Click right and scroll till you see english and click that.

Done :)

Just thought I would add a couple of external recordings of the monitor in action. Sadly, I only have a phone to record with and I don't have the steadiest of hands but you can see what is what.

Best to watch on youtube in 1080P to see a better quality vid of the Sammy.

Now you've had it for a while would you say gaming at 4k is a noticeable improvement in image quality, depth and experience?

I was playing with a new Samsung 4k curved 65" TV at the Gadget show which was so new it was hand made for the show as production is not yet started. In short I was absolutely blown away by it and wanted one instantly. Until they told me £6000 for one.

Absolutely. I run my Asus 1080P VG278H next to it for 3D gaming and playing it in 2D on that just looks so bland.

Not a single regret (except for getting stung on import duties) :p

Its on sale next week - retailers have them up at £4k, which is kind of appropriate
Rubbish for gaming though as the input lag is 62ms

Greg, do you think a decent pair of 780's would run one of these?

Absolutely. You are only fractionally slower than me and at 4K, it will be 2 or 3 frames max in truth. AA doesn't need to be used at all in action games and you wouldn't tell if it was on or off. When the action slows down you might but 2xAA will sort that and will keep you under the 3GB buffer :)
