SAMSUNG

Im quite amazed that this topic has ended up as a silly mobile phone war full of purchase justification - its all quite embarrassing

I phone my friend from accros the room just so we can see how retarded the Note II looks holding it to his ear.

Try that with me and i'll laugh at you as i tap my Blue-Tooth in my ear. No problems with a big phone next to my head

Also, it's not too big, fits in my coat pocket just fine and after a couple of weeks it feels normal to me and all over phones seem small, heck, my gf's iPhone 4 looks tiny and toy like!

I say fanboy because that is how his and your reasoning is.. Fanboyish, Oh it's too big i will look silly holding it, it's not small like my iPhone it must be crap. Let's completely bypass the functions and features because i wont look cool.

What's the last link got to do with anything i was saying? fanboy ;)

You may have noticed I used XML tags. That's the kind of irrational response a fanboy would give, hence the tags.

Personally I don't like either the S3 or the Note. I have always liked the Google reference phone (and owned a couple too) but Android doesn't fit very well into my workflow.

Apparently thinking a phone is too big makes me an Apple fanboy. Cheers.

I would not consider Samsung to be anywhere close to a premium brand, mid level at best.

They may have some pricey products but that does not make you "premium"....they manufacture too much tat to be taken seriously.

I don't own anything Samsung and I wouldn't either......Sorry!

How do you know unless you actually own anything Samsung? I'm sure you'll change your opinon if you did

I've had a couple of Samsung bits in the past (I never said I hadn't own any previously), also I have plenty of friends and family who own it (TV's, fridges, natty home cinema in a box systems), therefore I've seen it and experienced it first hand.....and that's how my opinion is formed.

Pioneer were premium when they made TV's. Plenty of premium audio brands for example- dCS, Krell, Wilson Audio, Michell - Samsung make audio equipment - are they premium? I don't think so.

From a phone point of view I could be convinced, but from an electronics (audio/visual) point of view - not a chance.

Also, it's too common to be premium. No pride of ownership if every tom, dick and harry owns it, imo of course.

Fair enough

Like Apple then?

I remember an article from one of the electrical trade press mags a fair few years back (when I worked in electrical retail in the mid-late 90's up until 2001) the Bosses of Samsung announced expansion plans and were aiming to overtake all the main Japanese Electronics firms & grab their market share.

Back then Samsung were regarded along with LG as cheap & Cheerful. I think in a few short years those brands will be all that is left.

I don't get how some people are saying the Note II looks stupid - I love the size of it! Feels like a real man's 'toy' and not just some plaything. (My own opinion after using a friends iP4 after using my Note II :p)

I'm an electronics design engineer.

About 8 years ago I wanted to design a particular ARM based control system.

Every silicon vendor I turned to were crap with regard to technical information and sample code. Samsung were fantastic.

I was allocated a named engineer in S Korea (who was responsible for much of the BSP porting to the chosen device) and was always on hand to help.

Exceptional service on the engineering level. Maybe they won more fans than just me with this attitude?

Pretty much how I regard them, as a components manufacturer, second to none, I just dont think that level of skill and ingenuity really enters what they sell as consumer products though...

Also they have the stance IMHO, that if they pepper every niche of consumer electronics some will eventually stick and sell - not a way to make a premium brand though, not in the slightest...

Yeah they didn't deliver when it came to finished consumer items until recently - and maybe still don't.

BTW - Go Kimi Raikkonen for next season.

You butted in on a conversation i was having with someone else and kept banging on about how you dont like the Note 2. I dont particularly care whether or not you like it or not, the fact of the matter is Samsung products have been doing pretty well of late. It's sold over 5 million units in 2 months. Can't be bad huh? Btw just out of interest what phone do you know? :p
