Scariest Game you have ever played?

Was going to get amnesia however it lacks gamepad support (its a fps I know) but I do like to hook my laptop up to my plasma and kick back on the sofa for single player action using a gamepad...

So I never bothered with it.. Sounds like I've missed out.

Sounds like I've missed out.

It does look very interesting. No weapons or anything, just running away and using your wits to get through the game. Not sure it will interest you but seems if you play it via onlive they have gamepad support.

Amnesia, Penumbra series, System Shock 2, and bits of the Stalker series (SoC mainly) spring to mind.

Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. The hotel makes me :(

Doesn't help that I'm a massive wuss, though. I keep meaning to play Amnesia (have it installed, but never played it) and Thief 3 for the Shalebridge Cradle, but I'm too much of a nancy.

Managed about ten minutes of the first Penumbra game. Playing the games defy common sense, there's something nasty outside my room making scary noises and you want me to put effort into unlocking the door and going out there? No thank you, I think I'll stay where I am.

Im going to have to say Amnesia is one very well designed game on the atmospheric front. I still dont like to play it now when im on my own and in the dark...

Dead space and fear are both capable of making me jump still lol

when i was ~12 i played thief deadly shadows. i never got past the robbing the cradle level until i was 16 because it was so damned scary.

the combination of these two videos is the only thing i have found that does it justice.
(i've watched up to ~30 mins through the second one so far)

watch the introduction to this video (50 seconds or so)

and then watch as much of this video as you want. it should autoplay from ~2:30 in.
if you get bored, skip to ~11:45 and carry on watching from there. if your really getting bored, stick with it until the girl stops speaking then watch from 22:45

*edit*
a few months ago i tried that level with headphones on at night.... never again! i almost had a heart attack when my mum tapped me on the shoulder to tell me she was going to bed

Blood. The cd audio was excellent, as was level design and game in general

FEAR. The only game I had to stop playing when I say the little girl a couple of times

Think I'll give Amnesia another try

I just finished Afterfall: Insanity, although it is a horror based game it only has a few jumping places. But the game is pretty creepy and well worth playing, looks pretty amazing in some places as well. I think I will start Amnesia now :)

Can't link directly due to swearies (of course!), but EVERYONE should search YouTube for "Amnesia The Dark Decent Best Of Reactions Compilation".

That game is fear itself.
