Secret Invasion (Marvel TV Series)

Good episode, but.........

Nick Fury tells MI6 that the Skrulls have infiltrated a Nuclear sub, a Naval Commodore is a Skrull with the launch codes and they are planning to launch from the sub in a few hours; their response is, "sorry, too busy". Millions wiped out, WW3 stuff - "sorry, i'm dealing with my own issues".

So 2 of them plan a half assed hostage attempt.

I'm all for suspending disbelief, but that was very, very, very lazy writing :(

Sam Jackson, Ben Mendelson, Olivia Colman and even Don Cheadle pretty much acting their hearts out so far.

The sit-down between Fury and Rhodes last week was a particular highlight.

The plot is a bit similar to Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which is my only criticism so far.

Again, Aliens are trying to wipe out all of humanity - better call in the Aveng....................oh, still relying on one 70yo ex-spy to prevent it?

The stakes for this are just far too high to NOT include the Avengers, a problem with almost all "post-Avengers" stand-alone films. If the threat is so great that "every human dies" and the Avengers aren't being brought in, then what's the point in having them?

Who even are the Avengers now? I don't really have a clue.

Iron-man is dead
Black Widow is dead
Wanda is 'dead'
Vision is 'dead'
Rhodey is a public servant.
Thor is off the board
Nobody knows who Spider-man actually is, so they can't contact Peter

Hulk, Ant-man and Sam?

From the OG 2012 Avengers only Hulk and Hawkeye are left on Earth but from End Game onwards we can now add in Dr Strange, Black Panther, Captain Marvel & whats left of GoTG - I think its it anyway but I think Spiderman will still come to the rescue as he still knows who he is even if no-one else does right now.

However you're absolutely right to ask "who are the Avengers now" as a general concept, it's one of the many, many problems with the MCU at the moment. I think Phase 4 onwards was suppose to be the start of a hand-over from OG Avengers to some newly created "next version" Avengers, aiming to climax by the end of Phase 6 (just like the OG avengers did) but it's been such a hit/miss through the films/TV that for the average person off the street, just trying to establish who is an "Avenger" right now is just a mess.

Ideally the MCU needs a clean-up, stripping away all the additional stuff and just concentrate on 4-5 main characters through Phase 5 (2023 to 2025 - starting with Secret Invasion) but looking at the films/TV shows slated for Phase 5 thats not going to happen and the franchise is spreading even further.

Will Jeremy Renner ever be fit enough to play Hawkeye again? If not I guess we could have Hailee Steinfeld as a substitute

Dr Strange (in the MCU at least) was never really an avenger.

Ant-man: Quantumania was (sadly) the start of Phase 5, not secret Invasion.

Dont think we be seeing Hawkeye back for a while if ever. JR did mention he was was going to retire but not really confirmed yet. So wont be back for any roles in the present time.

I did read they were planning to go down the Thunderbolts route (basically its a bunch of fake/substitute "Avengers" who are really
Super Powered Criminals
) but havent heard anything since that initial announcement.

You mean the media lied to me???? :eek

etc :D

Yes, I've now seen the official MCU timeline and agree with you, shame some media outlets can't do the same.

Dr Strange (in the MCU at least) was never really an avenger.

Who knows what he is at this point? He's one of "Earth's mightiest super heroes" etc but does that make a person an "Avenger" specifically or does something else have to happen, like a ceremony?

Listening to the Empire Spoiler special podcast for episode 3, and they pointed out something that I didn't catch but makes no sense

Robert "Bob" Fairbanks

Fury works out that Talos has likely been captured by "bob" and so he enters the room holding bob's 'son' at gunpoint.

However - This Bob guy is a skrull and his real human counterpart is hooked up to the machine at the Skrulls base.
Talos asks G'iah to get the abort code, and she breaks in to where the humans are being held and cycles through the real guys thoughts, to find out the info.

The code is "Zachary" which is the name of his son - which means the son is definitely a real human

So why was the skrull version so afraid that Fury would shoot the boy when it's not even his son?

Short episode today.

Not much to say about it really. There was action at the end, but not staged particularly well. I think that's a problem of the whole series really - meh direction.

Wasn't that
Rhodes voice on the phone at the end?

So are they a Skrull?

Good call!
Slow to start, but i enjoyed it. This is getting crazy though, it seems Skrulls have infiltrated so many top positions. Only way Fury can win is by finding the host bodies and freeing them.

But multiverse, so each character has infinite lives.
