Secret Invasion (Marvel TV Series)

Terrible

0/10

final fight was lolworthy, also so they just made the most powerful person ever in the MCU? why did he even leave who he thought was Fury in the machine? and then she just beat him easily anyway pretty much
also skrull rhodes they just let waffle on and then shot him anyway when they could have just shot him
and that tacked on ending where everyone is killing skrulls and sometimes not skrulls wtf
I liked the idea of the series but it was badly made, the action scenes were very low budget, cgi muzzle flashes etc,
the key scene at the end is four people stood outside a lift in a corridor ?!
main bad guy was rubbish as well

Loki and most of wandavision are still the only good mcu D+ things they have made so far

Also to add to this - The humans kept on the Skrull base would surely have succumbed to radioactive poisoning.

It was quite cheap for Marvel, Poorly directed, and it felt like it had been chopped to pieces in the editing room.

Last episode was far too short and series actually got worse as it went on IMO.

And Emelia Clarke has every avenger power ever? She would literally be the most powerful being in the universe.

I guess so ability wise? But she just proved with gavik all you need to do is blow a bit of a hole in her middle and she dies for some reason. Which I thought was rather odd as she stabbed him in the chest few mins earlier with a large sword and it didnt bother him. Wasn't sure why a bit of a bigger hole killed him off. The whole fight was silly.

Anyone else notice that the hit squad sent to kill Furys missus was all red blood flying everywhere when they were shot? I thought they were meant to be skrulls... Then later when it showed a few laying on the floor you could see purple blood. I should write continuity errors :D

Show started off intersting but ended dull.

Scarlet Witch is still the most powerful being in the MCU. A fight between her and Gai'a would be so one-sided it's not even funny

Also, worth noting that Gai'a is missing tech and magic-based powers. She's also missing Peter Parker's DNA, and the DNA of post-Endgame heroes (like Spectrum). So it's far from a complete set of powers. Most of what she gained was just variants on super strength and durability, but there are some standouts:

Thor Odinson (Lightning)
Carol Danvers (Energy blasts & Flight)
Ghost (Phasing)
Mantis (Empathy)
Ebony Maw (Telekenisis)
Frost Giant (Ability to form frost weapons and frost armour)

These powers make her a huge threat & probably the second most powerful MCU character at the moment (after Scarlet Witch). But I wouldn't say she's unstoppable. She killed Gravik with Carol Danvers' powers, proving that she herself isn't invulnerable. I doubt anyone other than Wanda could beat her solo, but it's not difficult to imagine a team who would stand a good chance.

Scarlett witch is dead under a mountain, so far as we know.

You don't see a body of course but we have to assume she's dead even though they could retcon that.

Overall I didn’t really enjoy this show, just found it had a bit of “low budget made for tv movie” feeling around it

As others have said, quite disjointed and illogical things happening

Also due to Russia references (which I’m sure they wouldn’t write into any show over the last year) I wonder if this is actually quite old, pre Ukraine, and suffering from covid development / production issues?

Thought it was a bit of a cope out. They imo haven't thought of the consequences with

Giving Gaia a huge list of powers like that. Many of which can't be replicated like that. So kinda silly as it's already mentioned she the most powerful being in the universe now. Super Skrull only had the powers of the fantastic four so who knows where they are taking this.

Also Talos was just thrown away so cheaply was weak too.

I never thought I'd say this, but that could easily have been a D+ Marvel movie instead of a series, and I'm also beginning to think that a longer run would be worth it on some shows. Being able to have a story play out over 10 or 15 episodes is better than having to wrap everything up in 5 or 6 episodes. There's precious little time for effective story telling. If things were longer, and on a platform like D+ it doesn't matter if you miss a weekly episode like it does on network TV, I feel things could be fleshed out an awful lot more than these short runs.

Episode count is really no excuse. See Jack Ryan S4. Same number of episodes, smaller budget, but a far better series.

Stuff's just going wrong at Marvel at the moment. I didn't hate Secret Invasion. But it wasn't anything like as good as it should have been. And that seems to be a recurring problem with their output at the moment.

There was a huge budget, something like $200m for this series. I just feel that due to the pressures of always having to have something coming soon or showing on D+ to stop people cancelling the writing has suffered.
Clearly the budget was on the CGI, But it was always going to be a CGI heavy series with all the Skrull changes.

So by all accounts it's another show that Disney dropped a bollock on? Shame, had a small hope this one might have been different :(

Pretty much, for me it's got that same problem WandaVision had where (spoilers both for ahoy)

they felt it had to end with an equally powered big bad in a standard superhero CGI smackdown despite it being a relatively grounded (or weird in Wandavisions case) affair up until episode 4, this isn't a show that needed Superskrulls or Emilia Clark having a badly CGI'ed Drax arm, this is a show that just needed Gravik's infiltration agenda being outplayed and truly show Spymaster Nick Fury was back

And this is what I don't get. Marvel comics themselves don't have a problem with stories occasionally ending that way, yes big event comics typically end in the big Avengers Assemble moment (or it's equivalent depending on the people/teams involved) but small stories are allowed to be different , but it's something that's been lost in translation to the MCU.

$200 million?!

It looked like it cost about $20 million, if that. Where is that money going? Salaries?

Most of it was shot in the UK I think.
A scene in the first episode with a big explosion was done about a mile away from me in West Yorkshire but most in London i believe. Does seem a lot though.
