Sennheiser HD650 - The classic beauty in a grey dress Appreciation thread!

I've been offered a pair of 650's in mint condition with a Wireworld cable (cable alone costs £200 I've been told) for £200. Does this sound like a decent deal?

For the headphones alone sure, but personally I'd disregard any value in the cable being worth £200 and producing a better sound than the default cable :p

But you can get the 650s brand new for £225... I'd offer less and sack off the cable

Cheers MRK. He's after £165 for the headphones on their own...

165 Seems more reasonable yeah.

Cheers :) I really quite like the K7xx's but I can't seem to stop coming across constant praise of the 650's on various forums. And I think I actually am spending more time listening to music than gaming anyway so maybe the 650's would be worth getting.

Especially as my daughter gets older and I get less time to get stuck into a game but I'd be able to throw on an album or two.

I loved the akg 712 but they felt a little bit big for me or I could have happily lived with them, the 650s fit like a glove tho. Not tried them for gaming yet

The balanced version of the cable will set you back about that but not worth it if you don't have a balanced amp and source to go with it. (Whether its worth that money at all is debatable but atleast the balanced version functionally does something that standard one doesn't).

Even high end standard wiring ones aren't worth anything like that money.

If you have a balanced output on your amp then you can get a custom made balanced cable for £50 (loads on eBay, the LItz standard one I've had made also comes in balanced option for the same price). The £200 branded one isn't going to do anything different over the custom made one for £50.

I've only got a Schiit Vali (may get a Magni 2 Uber instead at some point) so pretty sure I don't have balanced output.

You'll be impressed with them either way :)

I did put the shorter 1.2m cable on the MM but actually forgot about them and as it turns out, nobody seems interested in them anyway! I'll take them off MM and give them away to anyone here who may want them. Much rather give them away and get used instead of remain on a shelf unsold.

First come first serve!

Edit*
I am actually considering sacking off the headphone stand and using the 650's solid hinged box as worktop storage when the 650s are not in use. It just feels like a damn shame not to be using the beautiful box for storage and instead putting them on a stand to accumulate dust inside the cups throughout the working day and through the night when I'm not wearing them!

I wouldn't mind trying it, the only reason I didn't buy the cable was having to keep unplugging from the earcups for each different use. But I'll take if you're giving it away and then if I'm still not happy about unplugging will give it away to someone else

Going to pass on the 650's I was offered as the £165 didn't include postage or Paypal fees so I might as well buy new at that rate.

I'll keep an eye on auction sites but it's not like the K7xx's aren't nice anyway :)

Wise choice I'd say!

No prob, just Trust me address and it will be on the way :)

Very decent of you mrk, I would have jumped all over it too but it's just too short.
It's the same length as my shortest IEM cable and I've had to move their amp a bit closer to allow some slack.
Now a 1.5m cable would right on the money. :)

Very decent indeed and shows what goes around comes around as I said I'd give someone my asus dg when I got a stx the other week on here. Not found an st/stx yet

if it's for gaming, keep the 598 but if it's for music then do it - if it's for both then keep the 598 and buy the HD650 - simples.

Well the custom cable arrived today. It's superb quality construction but there's one major flaw.

Microphonics in the cable as the braids rub against each other

So it's being returned. I am just going to use one of those velcro cable tidy things on the stock cable to shorten it be done with it.

I take it there's no issue with folding a cable like this?
