Thought I'd bash out a quick guide to the quota system for all. This explanation only talks about GPU stuff, since the quota system doesn't really impact on CPU work that much as they don't seem to return many (if any) errors.

Basically, every error you report (for us, this basically means computation errors and time-outs), reduces your quota by 1. However, the first error reduces it to just 99, and each subsequent error reduces it by 1 more. So, irrespective of what your quota is, 1 error will reduce it to 99, and each subsequent error will reduce it by 1 more. The quota is increased by 1 each time you report a valid task. To figure out how many tasks you can get, take the max tasks per day figure from the Application Details link under your host, multiply it by 8, and then multiply it by the number of GPUs you have. The result is the true maximum number of tasks you will get per day.

Basically, you need to try and avoid returning computation errors, and proactively detatch and re-attach (with an empty cache) to clear out your ghosts to avoid getting hammered by this system (better try and pick up the pace on my perl script)!

I'm not sure when they took this live, but yesterday it bit me in the a*s. My quota got puked from several thousand because 44 ghost tasks timed out that had a two week dealine (and I didn't even know I had them)!

Ohh, its stopped raining just in time to go to work. :) ...ohh, no it hasn't :(

Boinc is giving me grief again, all cpu tasks are timing out. All i have in messages is pages of "Aborting task ........ exceeded elapsed time limit, gpu tasks are fine its a puzzle. Not got the cpu overclocked or anything like that any ideas peeps? :(

Thanks for that Grimgoth no i checked its ok. If i do a re install after backing up the data folder etc will that work do you think, or would i have problems if during install it needs to connect to project and it is down?:(

See my post in the Fermi completion times thread......

I it bad that I'm halfway through my cache already :(

I know that feeling. I was chewing through tasks that fast that I thought I wasn't gonna make it by 1.5-2 days! Fortunately, I seem to have hit a batch that are normal length tasks now. They've really got to get things square re task estimates; relying on straight numbers of tasks just doesn't work. I'm trying to clear out my cache as I know I've got a chunk of ghosts that I need to clear out.

Just noticed an astropulse task finished in 3.5 hours - they're normally 12 hours for me!

Posties been again

I think 3-4 months is quite reasonable for an astropulse task :)

Have you got that desperate for RAC that you are using a pocket calculator to do WU's now? :p
That is a very odd number i've never seen mine estimate over ~350-400Hrs unless its tied to the client_state.xml editing?? Although not really sure if that would make a difference. Are they all estimating high or just the AP units?
