SETI@home News Vol. 112 (08/08/2010)

Evening Loudbob :)
I have not been able to see my pending for over amonth, how do you guys do it? All i get is the page headers and thats it, tried waiting for ever and nothing ever loads

Hmmmmm...............

Just clicked on 'pending' from my account page at setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu

But I guess you already tried that - so thats why you're asking.

Other than what I normally do (above) I cannot suggest any other options.

Sorry

Nearly purchased another 470 today (some nice prices about) - but as I still have no idea whats happening with the hybrid (and possible replacement) I managed to hold off.

Besides - I need to sort out the case issue first (hopefully on/around the 8th Sept).

They've not sorted your rma yet!
Yes i see what you mean there are some decent prices around at the moment, i keep my eye on the daily specials to no avail apart from after i bought 2 hafx cases they put em on special
I thought you had sorted the "case issue" short term i know i won't be able to get across in time for the 8th but do let me know if the situation or your requirements change so i can set about finding them a new home :)

Will do :)

But if you do get an offer - don't mind me (I won't mind).

And when I do upgrade - you will be the first I ask about a new home for the Nvidia Stacker.

Regarding the RMA - OcUK are still waiting for a replacement from thier suppliers.

I have the same problem after the initial uploads after an outage (like now) i think the max amount it shows before you just get a blank page is around 900k - 1M. After some have been validated i usually can see the page again. So its probly a case that you are constantly over the max viewable.

Thanks for that Mr Reaver sah, thought it must be something of the like but i miss been able to brag about pending, sadly Loudbob has no such problem ;):p:D

Mornin'g Mr Toxic. I think the pendings page will be limited, either by a buffer on the DB, or more likely by the SQL query being used to build the page simply timing out. The fact that you get a page at all indicates that the PHP is being processed (and the HTML is being built on the fly as it should) but no data is being returned form the DB - hence no pendings. Lets face it, how many tasks are needed for a million credits - and you're trying to retrieve their details all at once? Databases that are used for large quantities of data do normally have timeouts (as do most databases), but the actual values used in a DB like S@H are absolutely critical to the good functioning of the system and are likely to be set quite low - otherwise the whole system could grind to a halt quite quickly. I'm always amazed that they drive so much off their production database (including the forums)!

Of course, if you really want to see your pending total, just stop processing so dammed much - I think that would make some people happy (except you of course):D:D:D:D

Right - decided to have a go at pushing the fermi cards a bit further..

So far I have managed to push the 470 to 1550/775 core @ 1.075 with temps at 82C
The 480 has less head room, Im at 1580/790 core @ 1.088mV temp at 68C - I tried going upto 1100mV but 790 is the max stable I can get. 800 just defaults back to 2D core of 400 after 5 mins
Would have thought with a temp of 68C on the 480 I would have had a bit more room for oc'ing...
Still any oc is a good thing - free upgrade :p

I have worked on the assumption that the maximun safe voltage is 1100mV - I have seen them pushed more under water, but Im on air so dont want to push it more than is safe...

Hi Edge
I was suprised even with 12 hours downtime this outage i managed to output what i did, no doubt its due to the overclocks and case change to ones with better airflow :)
