SETI@home News Vol. 113 (22/08/2010)

Does CUDA now work properly out-of-the-box with the 0.37s for Fermi? He suggests it does, but is a little cagey.

Seems to be fine now, but Im not sure what you mean as it was fine for me before?

Are these new apps using the 3.0 dlls, or still using the 2.3 dlls?

Looks like v3 dll's

cudart32_30_14 :D

It has probably shaved off 90 seconds or so from my gpu wu's - not bad at all...

edit - just noticed LHC@home has sent me some work - must be a year since I joined and I have had nowt - so very happy days indeed :D:D

I must admit I was expecting a bigger improvement with the 3.0 dlls, but 5% is still 5%!

I had to do a fair amount of rewriting to get CUDA to work with Fermi before, otherwise all units crashed with computational errors. Illl give it a go.

I had to do some to get rescheduler to work, but otherwise the lunatics installer just works.
Make sure you are on the 256+ set of drivers, and the 'old' rescheduler will no longer work, you need to use Freds program
http://www.efmer.eu/download/boinc/scheduler/boinc_rescheduler_2_0.zip

Otherwise you should be good to go

If you haven't got any gpu's crunching though, Im not sure if it is worth doing?

Hmmmmm you mean something like this :)

:D:D:D Well I'd better apologize now then for what will happen over the next 2 weeks ;)

...............................no, its all your fault :p :D

Apparently there are a lot more optimisations to come, this is only the first release..
<JasonG has some more ideas for better optimization of the Fermi app. that he will put into later versions once all the kinks are worked out.>

I have got GPUs: in this case a GTX480, hence the question. And what is the scheduling problem?

If you use rescheduler 1.9 to move vlars from the gpu to cpu, then it will not work any more. It never worked with fermi, you had to hack the app_info to get it to work. Now it doesn't work at all, as it is no longer maintained by the developer. Freds program, does work with fermi, so if you do get vlars - you can use the link I posted to move them from the gpu to the cpu.
To be honest - rescheduler was only needed for the older 2xx series cards as fermi will happily crunch vlars taking about an hour to work through them, so it is a bit of non issue now..

Afternoon peeps, blimey i sleep for 15 hours and theres a new opt apps, so i take it we cant use rescedule 1.9 with it then?
Mr Loudbob sah.....nice water chiller..but surely the cons will outweigh the pro's the heat still has to go somewhere ??
Area51 message received and understood :)

Yes....we have new apps :)

No....we can't use rescheduler :(

Hey Mr Halz sah don't take it serious just messing about, happy new gpu sah i hope you do pass me in the next few weeks, it will take the pressure off and i can get lazy for a bit :)

Well i might be counting my chickens but.....
Have reseated the heat pipe assembly on the r3 and instead of the northbridge shooting upto 100 and then shutting down within a minute or 2 it has crept up slowly and sems to be stable at 60 or so.
Going to walk away and leave it for a while......who new watching a bios on a sunday afternoon could be such fun :eek:
