SETI@home News Vol. 114

The best sort too. Big bubbles > little bubbles. Only trouble is I've discovered stamping on them is even more fun (though much more short-lived).

Damn Damn Damn :mad::mad:
It is the PSU - swapping the cards around into different slots on the mobo made no difference, but swapping the power cables did - at various stages I managed to lose 1 out of 3 cards, each time a different one. If I use the 2nd bank of connectors for PCIe on the PSU, whichever card is connected to that socket fails to work. I proved this with all 3 gfx cards.
Luckily I have a spare 2 sockets for the 4th card that I have yet to buy, so I have the 3 cards up and running again, but I face a couple of weeks of downtime if I decide to send it back, or do I leave it and run the 4th card of molex converters - lol :eek::p

I though Xigmatec were OK, but biffa's blew up on him, and mine has a failure

Buying a replacement while I send it back is out of the question, and I'm not ready to have 2 weeks downtime while I RMA it, at least not while it is so tight in the race for the top 10..
Will check the warranty and Im tempted to leave as is for the moment, and send it back at a future point in time...

@HeX have you setup your cache for Seti it will give you enough work for however many days you require :D

Hmm, how do I do that then :D

Sounds like what I need. My 460 is churning through WU's at about 12mins a pop.

CPU takes 1.5-3hrs a WU (for the most part).

So could do with a good stash of units for when the servers go down.

Also, 3 days off-line every week seems pretty crazy! Seriously how much database maintenance can you need! :D

Wow, that's a whole lot of frustration!!! As ever, Toxic does things on an epic scale! :D

My packing is legendary just ask Mr Halz or shadowscotland:D
Plus its good to have plenty in reserve for frustrating days :D
They found my package and its scheduled for delivery 12.30-1.30 hurrah!

There are those that think me a little crazy anyways, so as to not dissapoint i unrolled it the length of the hall and had a darn good trample....incredibly fun i thought:D

Hiya Hex

So that you have enough work units to make it through the outage and you dont run dry, go to the "your preferences" tab in boinc manager then "computing preferences" and it will give you the option to choose how many days worth of work you would like to set as your cache.
Given the project is down 3 days a week you might want to set 5,7 or even a 10 day cache. :)

Excellent, thanks for the info, I'll set that up when I get home. Won't get caught out next time :D

Every last bit of advice is burnt into my memory now, thanks in part to your good self and the expertise of others....i can't deny that on occassion i may have needed a little extra help....
Ok ok a whole lotta help :D:D:D

Dammit had a scary wake up rig was all frozen and had graphical corruption all over the screen thought my 470 had kicked the bucket  but a reboot later and all is well just don't know why it was like that temps were fine and I have it underclocked whilst I sleep so yeah hope it's not a sign of things to come :(

I know its difficult to be positive - but at least you know what the problem is and your output won't be completely puked!

Now, why doesn't it surprise me that you've admitted to doing that? :D Conjours up some interesting images though!!!!! ;)

I only RMA'ed mine as a matter of course because the 24pin was melted, but then the Silverstone did the same thing, so it was a combination of high power PSU's and a badly designed 24pin power connector on motherboards not being designed to take the load of 4 Fermi cards.

Still haven't got mine back yet.

Mr Edge is getting there slow but sure i think fingers crossed, on the subject of puke...ahemm i am doing a little green magic with a case....will post a pic later...ati fan boys this is not for you :D

Why not it was hysterically funny and it was like taking a step back to silly schoolboy behaviour....did me the power of good i tell thee :)

OK so not a one off event rig decide to freeze again with no corruption so meh gotta sort it out might turn overclock down a bit see if that sorts it out :(

I could give that a try, but I only have enough to do that with small bubbles. Doubt it'll be the same.

Hmm, ponders. Do you need to bubble wrap bubble wrap? ;)

No lock-ups on mine today. Thar's my three though - water gremlins, a failed light bulb and the hang.
