SETI@home News Vol. 122 (06/02/2011)

in appinfo.xml, change the count entry from 1 to 0.5, like so..

<coproc>
<type>CUDA</type>
<count>0.5</count>
</coproc>

You could have multiple instances of this for the different versions , I have entries there for 608, 609, 610. Do them all.

Appinfo file is in setiathome.berkely.edu folder under projects, which could be in different places depending on your O/S

These are rolling in quicker nowadays :D :D :D

Me too - realised the last one I posted was 13 mill..
Since the complete rebuild I have gone from 13K a day to 50K, I have no idea what was wrong - just glad I fixed it..

Yay to Marine for the tiffy...

18th was the last big bunch, got a few on the 19th but not many.

Just updated now - message from server: Project has no tasks available.

I've switched the gpus back over to folding for the moment.

I think we'd all like more consistency, but given the random nature of raw data collection, delivery, and processing, we're always going to hit period where workunits are scarce, and that's okay. Part of the delivery requires humans regularly swapping drives in docks, so we're constrained by work hours and sleep and such. Even when new data is brought on line it take about 4 hours before the first file is "radar cleansed" and made available to the splitters, which then take however long to convert the clean raw data into workunits. In short, the feedback loop isn't so great, so an even flow is difficult.

We had a few more gremlins to play with since yesterday's power outage recovery. Weird stuff involving idmapd of all things, which never ever gave us problems before. It's dying for some reason on a couple systems, messing with file ownerships, though with mostly cosmetic results.

Outside of that, looks like Eric has been rolling out the new SETI@home client in beta. It's been a while since we had one of those.

A minor hiccup in available work no biggie :)

Also 31k RAC :D :eek:

Ah cheers :)

Impressive! How much does your i7 put out? I've got 2 460s and the max I've had so far is around 14K in the boinc manager.

It's a pity there isn't any type of monitor you can see what each part is up to (or is there?).

Curious if my RAC will go up any higher once I get a steady supply, as 2x 460 doesn't seem that dissimilar to a 470 + 260, I want 30K! :p

Due to heat issues my i7 is only set to 50% and I have 2x 460s which only work when the screensaver cuts in. I'm getting just over 20k RAC on it, this is my man PC so in use for 8-10 hours per day.

CPU is OC'd to 4Ghz but the 460s are stock. I've just started to try the running of multiple WU on each gfx card. Still to see if it'll make much difference.

I actually hadn't noticed that, and it happened nine days ago :o. Congrats on the stomp everybody, h'onwards and h'upwards!

Some of you will have no doubt noticed that I've been severely slacking with the SETI news for the past few weeks. This is down to nothing other than having simply lost interest in everything to do with DC, so I just haven't had the motivation to continue producing the news.

Not to sound slushy or owt, but I owe you all a big thank you for reading the news posts. I am especially grateful to halz for providing the images with which I could tart the whole thing up with :)

That said, I'll still be popping my head in here occasionally and, should I recapture the DC bug, I'll happily rejoin my crunching ways at some point with you 'orrible lot ;)
