Shooting at live Twitch Madden tournament - four reported to be dead

So around 4,500 will die from asteroids? Ok.

I didn't make the odds and they come from a independent, dedicated council. Maybe they made some leaps in thinking and assumptions based on how built up the US will be in the following decades.

I was just correcting someone when they assumed it was the odds of being killed per year rather than per lifetime. I think we can all agree that the asteroid figure is going to be way off due to the lack of data and documentation on asteroid deaths...

You are welcome to refute the gun assault statistic with other figures, though i don't think pointing to an asteroid death estimate will convince anyone.

I don't even know what a gun assault is, am I shot? Did I get hit with the gun? Am I dead or alive? It's a dumb graph.

Given it is about causes of death, I assume it is the cause of death due to an assault by someone wielding a firearm. This is to differentiate it from statistics that include suicides.

'I've seen and heard a lot worse. This is small potatoes, tbh.

Well that’s obvious if you go looking for it, even without video footage the screams are still pretty chilling given the environment this happened in. It doesn’t need to be compared to some Mexican on ******** getting the chainsaw treatment...

Yeah, but this is so commonplace in America, I can't even muster up enough emotion to care about it. In any other Western country it would be a major event. In the USA, it's just another Monday.

I'm not sure how the country this is happening in affects how you feel about the victims, as if it's their fault for living in America?

For the same reason I'm not moved to tears by photos of starving children in Sudan: because it's so predictable, it's no longer shocking. After a while, low level compassion fatigue kicks in.

In the case of the USA, there's also the issue that Americans recognise the problem but refuse to take any sensible measures against it. This also reduces my capacity to care.

Typical USA, that's what they get for their gun laws.

Break down your sentence logically, you're implying someone deserved to be shot for being American? The victims didn't choose the laws, they didn't commit some immense act of stupidity which caused them to deserve death, and them and their families are the only only victims here

i thought america was a democracy, where the people did choose the laws, or am i missing something ;)

BBC article claims he has previously been hospitalised for mental health issues, and that he legally bought 2 guns.

Says a lot about the problem in America, but I don't think there is really a fix, nothing that's going to change it in the next 20+ years.

To me it looks like he is literately saying, 'these people got shot as a result of their gun policy' rather than these victims deserved what they got.

Not a far fetched view to take. If guns were harder to get, there would probably be less mass shootings.

USA as a whole, not a single person, as in this is to be expected in the USA, and this is what will happen with their current gun laws. If we legalise gun ownership in the UK, mass shootings is what we'll get.

Queue people coming in blaming Americas gun laws....

You're all simpletons man. Seriously.

Ban guns. Go on. Then Knives will be used.
If someone wants to kill people they can do it without guns ffs.....
Seen all these van killings lately in Europe? I don't see you muppets coming into the threads saying 'BAN VANS!' ffs

I blame the fact the guy was on SSRI's like EVERY. SINGLE one of these shooters.

You would have more of an argument blaming videogames and SSRI drugs.

AND FFS, WHY DOES THE NEWS GIVE THESE THINGS SO MUCH COVERAGE.

The news for these sorts of things should be kept locally. Not broadcast worldwide so you can give the shooter his 5 mins of fame. This sort of reporting creates more of them.
This is exactly what these disenfranchised, doped up videogame playing loons want!

The media is playing a HUGE part in CREATING more of these situations.
