Show us your kitty cats

We get Winston on Saturday, and he has been on Whiskas (bleurgh) and raw lamb/beef mince.

So we'll be starting out with a 75/25 mix of lamb mince and the various flavours of Macs and Animonda Carny we have to wean and also see what he likes.

Orijen will be the kibble for when we are out.

I have to say, growing up we had a dog, my brother had a dog, my sister had a dog. I got with my now fiance and she always had a cat. She persuaded me that cats were the way forward. One night I went and got her one as a surprise. Would never change back now.

I don't understand this view really. Not getting on at you personally, there's been lots of people coming in here saying "get a dog" or "dogs are better" but I don't see how liking a dog or a cat has to mean that you can't like the other, so much so that people have come in here to rile up cat owners.

I like all animals so I might be alone in this view but I like dogs and cats, I'm hoping to have a dog again as well as my cats. I know dogs are harder work but there are so many people that seem to hate dog/cats and are really disrespectful to owners of the other species. I don't get why it's a case of one or the other to a lot of people.

I actually meant to write this after the last person said "dogs rule" or something but I can't find the poster now. Sorry for my little mini rant! :)

Dont know if this counts because they technically arnt mine, but meet our stray cats in our Scaffy Yard.

Clyde has one eye and three legs. Proper cool dude, he somehow gets inside on our nets and chills all night. We havent a clue how he gets in and out.

Close up of Clyde on our nets.

I don't get it either - you can look after whichever you choose (or both).

I prefer cats because of their independence and lack of what feels like a significant dependency that dogs show.

But that's my own personal reason for preferring cats... I don't dislike dogs

Here are our boys, we picked them up on Saturday just gone when they were 9 weeks old - little scamps :p

take this however you want, but is that where they sleep? fair enough if so but I personally would keep the toilet seperate.

On the issue of the food discussion we use Scienceplan which is expensive but the cats happily eat it and I find their rear end mess is healthier looking etc, whiskas they only tend to eat if their really hungry, though we mix in a little whiskas wet every evening with the dried scienceplan. Tried some Imas the other day and the kittens were so so about it.

I agree. I grew up with cats but I also love dogs. If anything it seems easier to form a bond with a dog...

Still, dogs require a lot more attention and are more restrictive. Cats are more independent and so suit my lifestyle better. For example, I'm often out of the country for a few days at a time; cats can be left alone for a few days so long as someone can feed them, but that would be really unfair to a dog. Similarly with leaving them alone in the house during work days.

They slept in there for a couple of nights, they have a bigger pen now. The place where we picked them up from, they had the litter tray in the bed too so i assumed this would be what they were used to?! We cant really afford to just leave the litter tray exposed as we also have dogs! I will look into getting an enclosed litter tray, thanks for the advice though!

Edit: actually, its not that pricy...I might just get a small tub of the Natural Instinct come payday and see how she takes to it. You mix it with Whiskers? What ratos (50/50 etc) do you give your kitty sunama?

Unfortunately, you can't buy a single tub. Due to the postage price, they make u buy a minimum of 10KG (I think...not sure, but there is a minimum, so you end up paying around £25).

With regards to the mix: half and half. Its not good to mix raw with cooked, but these are animals, so should eat anything they are given. And I like giving my 2, pure meat. You could try raw meat in the morning and commercial cat food in the evening.

My Egyptian Mau is now nice and lean. He has a shiny coat and in the light you can see his muscle-tone (much like you see with muscular dogs with short coats). Less than 12 months ago, I was calling this cat "big daddy" because he had a big fat, round belly and would often sit on his back side, like a human being, exposing that belly of his.

Winston looks great and happy to be home too.

On the toilet in a toilet front wait until he discovers that toilet roll and what it can do with claws in it!

We'll be putting it away when we aren't around, he's already eyed it up numerous times, lol.

Our youngest one ate all my paintbrushes while I was out at work one day. Expensive. And I knew all about it because on my return home they were handily laid out in front of the front door as an offering. Well the handles were anyway.

below is Guinness who was killed by a car 4 years ago, which was terribly sad....so far we couldn't convince ourselves to get another cat

Cassy looks great. Really nice pics as well.

Sorry about Guinness, that's really sad. On the getting another cat thing I wouldn't challenge your view as its very much up to you of course. But I would put in, as we have had old cats that died and now have younger ones, that in getting more you are not replacing the originals. They are all so different there will always be plenty of room to remember and love the old ones that have gone. That's our experience of it anyway.
