For those of you looking to try out raw food on a budget:
The minced rabbit that I have is frozen and will take a while to thaw, so I decided to buy some mince from Tesco. I paid £1.56 for 500g.
When I got home I mixed (half and half) the beef mince with Whiskas.
I put the first bowlful down and both cats guzzled it up quickly.
I then went back into the kitchen and they were both being a little agressive around the empty food bowl, so I loaded another bowl full of the minced beef and whiskas mix and they finished that off pretty quick.
So, my advice for those who want to try giving your cats real meat - get some cheap mince from Tesco and mix it with some of the regular food.
Winston was weaned using lamb mince, which he gobbles down. Thankfully he has also taken to the Macs pouches, going to see how he like Animonda Carny next week.
If he can handle the mince, why not keep him on that?
You will need to give him a complete food alongside the mince, though, as mince on its own lacks the vitamins/minerals that cats need to stay healthy.
This is why I give my 2 cats a combination of raw meat AND whiskas.
I was reading a study a while back regarding raw food vs cooked food. And raw food was overwhelmingly more healthy for the cat - their teeth, their fur, their muscletone - raw meat is the best, providing your cat can handle it or is willing to eat it.
