My mum's Leonberger just sired a litter of 8 a few weeks back.

The bitch has also adopted an orphan kitten, and it is BEYOND cute.

Looking for a bit of help.

Our cat has recently been getting up at around 3am and constantly jumping on and off the bed and climbing all over us/poking us. I expect it's because he's hungry but we have an automatic feeder that goes off at 4am. We aren't able to shut him out of the room as he's able to open doors.

Anyone got any suggestions for how to handle it? We could move his 4am feed to earlier but I'm worried that'll just mean he gets up at 2am instead.

not much you can do about the sleeping habbits of a cat. other than try and wear them out before you go to bed and hope they sleep longer.

ours go through phases of pratting around in the night or sleeping all night.

Use a heavy doorstop?

Also, why do you feed him so early?

e: I feed Luna at 7am, when I get up and then again when I get home in the evening. My hometime varies throughout the week but if she's ever on the automatic feeder, that's set to 7am/7pm. She also gets a handful of treats later in the evening and she knows if I leave it too late :p I shut her downstairs at night mainly because I'm a light sleeper and would be kept awake by her roaming about and mewing.

My cat is or was exactly the same and yes in my case it was that she wanted fed. initially I shut het in a room but was never comfortable with that.

Now I feed her something around eight in the evening and that has stopped the nuisance you describe happening at 3 am each morning.

Edit: I also changed her diet from the Sheba/Felix ETC pouches after talking to my vet as I felt that these were not filling her and she is a big cat. But I did not want to give her any more of these pouches as they are very high in calories and she does not like dry food. She now has poached fish which is mixed with a small amount of the pouch contents insuring she gets the necessary nutrients. And she is a far better cat for this diet, more playful and alert and far better behaved. Less sleeping during the day but more at night.

When we first got him he did the same thing as now and found that a very early feed helped, up until recently.

He's fed 4am/8am/2pm/6pm/10pm, spreading his daily 40g of dry food across those 5 slots. We've tried feeding him a bit later than 10pm but so far it hasn't helped.

Guess we'll just have to persevere and see if it's just a phase.
