Who has the best tips for introducing a new cat into an environment where one cat has ahd the run of the house for about 5 years?

Any ideas on how to proceed?

Sounds like you're doing everything right. As others have said, give it time. Unfortunately there are no guarantees - they could end up being best buds, or she might always hate the sight of him.....or most likely they'll be an uneasy truce. I've introduced a lot of cats and it's always impossible to tell what will happen. I would recommend you get a pheromone plug-in diffuser (I'm not in the UK anymore, so can't tell you where from...) as that will calm them both down - they work really well.

We feed our cat twice a day on canned food. Also give him water and biscuits but he never eats them.

I am very suspicious of these cat products claiming to be healthy when they are just biscuits. I mean they are freaking biscuits!!!

also give him the odd bit of meat now and again and he catches his own birds/mice.

= slightly fat but hopefully healthy cat.

I managed to train spock to use the scratch post i made last night. He's the more settled of the three so hopefully the others wil see him and learn or be more comfortable to learn themselves soon.

Every time i walked past the thing he was climbing to the top and meowing ready for a treat!

Hehehe.

You would think that wouldn't you...

As an example, my Bengal is very good with using scratch posts and no other items of furniture to scratch on.

My Egyptian Mau on the other hand prefers to use my speaker grilles (which are made out of cloth) to scratch. The result is that his claws go through the cloth grille and have now punctured the woofers of both speakers. I scream and shout at him everytime, he goes near the speaker, but unfortunately, in my absence, he does manage to get to them.

Put simply I need to periodically buy new speakers.

My kittens, fast becoming small cats were always good with the scratch pole, they instinctively took to it.

I find that having a catnip spray and a behaviour spray really useful when you want to train them to use something or avoid something.

Sprayed behaviour spray behind my TV/Media Server and they rarely seem to go back there anymore. When they do I just whack a few squirts (reey) down there and job done.

Awesome pics of kittens above, post more better quality pics soon !

Ive tried the behaviour spray. Makes absolutely no difference with my 2 cats.

In fact, once I sprayed so much of that stuff, I made myself feel sick, but the 2 cats were happily lounging around in that area.

And catnip doesnt work with either of my 2 cats, unfortunately.

Ah thats a shame, makes life a little easier when they react to them.

My old tit once sprayed one of my old cats in behaviour spray instead of flea spray by accident. It wasn't until she looked down at the bottle after he basically lost the plot and went mental that she realised what she had done.

Queue putting the kitteh in the sink and washing him down :D

CAn you not just cover them with a metal speaker mesh?

This is definitely an idea which I have toyed with. The wire mesh in my local hardware store isnt strong enough - my Egyptian Mau will take extra joy is feeling the wire mesh breaking, as he scratches through it.

The problem is that when he wants to, he is very destructive. He is very strong and uses all his might, when he want to destroy something.

As an example, I have a thick (old) carpet in the hallway. Sometimes, when the door is closed to my bedroom or lounge, he will "dig" into the carpet. There is now a big hole in the carpet. If he can can do that to carpet, wire mesh will be a piece of cake.
