Show us your kitty cats

We've now realised that she is a Tank Cat.

Usually pure white, but adding dabs before battle

It looks like my family could be re-homing a couple of cats in the next couple of days, so i thought i would ask for any tips and tricks to make the transition as easy as possible
There isn't much you can do, it's all down to the family who adopt them.

Your part will be to discover whether they like other cats, dogs, children and so on, so you can choose a suitable home for them. Beyond that, you need someone who understands what to do, because adopting a cat is not the same as getting a new kitten. A kitten is very malleable, an older cat is not.

It's very important not to overwhelm them. When they get to their new home, they should be put in one room and kept just in that room for a few days. Then, at their own pace, they can be introduced to other rooms and the family.

This is something against their will. It's not just a new home, it's a new family too, so they need to be kept indoors for three months until they are full acclimatised to both.

Honestly, I would take them myself, I am a sucker for a cat that needs a home, but I am overwhelmed at the moment. I am feeding six cats, and it's costing me the earth,

Spoke too soon, While they are being entertained by the kids or the millions of toys we seemed to have bought, they are fine, but as soon as they are left to themselves, they eventually start fighting, now im assuming this must be a territory thing, and it will sort its self out eventually.

How old, and are they related? Are they actually fighting or play fighting?

The girl is 2 and the boy is 1, Ive been told they are mother and son, it seems like they are play fighting, but im still very new to this and want to make sure.

It is most likely just play fighting. The boy is still very young and learning. Play fights often get out of hand and there may well be some mild damage done, but you will tell if it gets really serious. There will be fluff and blood all over the kitchen.

If, in general, they are friendly towards each other, then there isn't a problem. It just sounds like the boy is starting some "fun-fights" when he is bored!!!

Females, tend to be more territorial about the home. They don't like other cats in their home, but they will learn to suffer it! Right now, she is probably more stressed than he is. Believe it or not, it can take up to two years for them to fully relax with a new home and owner, although mostly they are fine after three months. In the meantime, you can expect them to be a bit out of kilter.

@Hutch thanks!

Based on my two, they have massively different characters so sharing based on my limited experience… not sure if this is breed specific or just the two cats!

Loki the British Shorthair is a ‘scaredy cat’, super timid and quite aloof. Does her own thing and definitely not a lap cat. More like a grumpy teenage girl actually. She has the weirdest, mopey sad meow that also sort of sounds like the Ghostbuster siren :p So she’s the source of much amusement / bemusement, particularly as she moves around the house at the speed of a tortoise, meowing away :o :D she’s also the one that is scratching at the door in the morning for her breakfast and bringing us ‘presents’ (dead animals) and gets into gnarly fights with other cats… as well as the one that tries to stay in the bedroom and sleep on the bed - sits next to you on the sofa if she can. Acts like she doesn’t love you, so it might seem, but she adores you in her own weird way :)

Thor, a Maine **** [note: this word is blocked by the swear filter but just search for big cat breeds and you’ll find it], is almost the complete opposite - he’s a real Rum Tum Tugger. Just does not give a **** about anything. Super curious (watches you do everything), boisterous and has dog like excitement. Massive in size, frequently called the biggest cat anyone has seen. LOVES a fuss and tries to sit on your lap. Always trying to butter you up to get snacks. Parades the whole neighbourhood and waits out in the driveway for the children going to school to pet him. Quite ‘dog like’ in character, really. You can play fetch with him! He loves Loki and frequently tries to play / chase her, and as you can imagine Loki hates it and hisses at him… but he does it anyway :D

I think most people, if they were not ‘100% cat people‘, would ultimately prefer the company of a cat like Thor. But it’s probably the weirdness that comes from a cat like Loki that makes people adore cats.

Oh go on then a few more snaps:

Just got a big shock. I was at the kitchen sink when the catflap slammed open and a brown and black blur shot in. Ozzy's back again!! He went straight upstairs, stuffed his face and went to bed. Two days in a row!! I know I am being hopeful but it could be that the Ozzy that I know and love so much is making a comeback. Wifey always said he was probably staying out because it was so hot and it was massively cooler yesterday and today. Coincidence or just a cat being a cat?

is he young? I find when they are young they can spend forever outside. There is a territory to be patrolled and stuff to do. As they get older they become much more house cats. One of mine could disappear for 36 hours when he was young, now he's 11 he likes to spend 80% of his time in the house on my bed or begging for attention.
