...Which breaks a lot
of course. i see v8 vantages with 40-50k miles on them lining the side of the road with the bonnets open.......... even if it did break, its nice to look at while your waiting for the tow truck.

What do you drive?
a diesel mondeo with a chavvy dump valve and a remap and an alto, with orange wheels

Give it a rest, you drive a Boxster - it's hardly a vehicle that's at the pinnacle of, well, anything.

So? Better than a Golf :p

I would much rather be seen in a Golf R than a Boxster...

You buy cars on how they make you look? Didn't realise it was a handbag...

Perhaps one day he can upgrade it to an E90 3 Series.

We can only hope...

^^ That comment is nearly as silly as crinkleshoes/Jumper118's

?

I don't like Golfs... my wife doesn't like Golfs... preference is not silly, it's preference...

In that range of vehicle...

135 > Civic TR > Megane 275 > Golf R

... at least it's not a Skoda!

Latest Golf chassis just don't have any life / excitement to them, far too boring to drive.

not in my eyes... :D

depends if they make you look like a hairdresser or not ;)

I do agree with you there... but then so are most modern hot hatches if you compare them to there older models.. the golf especially in my eyes.. its gained to much weight there no longer a fun car..

give me the choice of having a Mk2 golf gti for a weekend or a new golf R and I would go with the Mk2.. it would just be so much more fun..

but in modern day standards.. the golf would be 1 to consider if you want a fast daily hot hatch.. it would just be a fast car with all the nice bits. it wouldn't be as exciting as a Mk2 gti would be but would be better suited as a daily.

If only people bought cars based on how the car/engine/exhaust/steering/seating/chassis/comfort etc makes them feel every time they start moving instead of pondering whether they shared parts with another marque :o

I wish we had some genuinely wealthy, snobbish members on this forum to show us how it's done. There's too many people with old Maseratis/Boxsters/DB9s thinking that because they've spent £30k on a car they're basically Roman Abramovich :p

True, I still think back to the time when I read a post your cars thread, lots of M3s, M5s, some Exiges and the like... then suddenly a 458......

It's the stuff that turns up to meets that gets me. Poked my head out to view what was currently lapping at the Silverstone Sunday Service to see a Carrera GT, 458 Special and 911 GT3 lapping together at 10/10ths.

Meh... people used to say that about my MX5(s) too... I was having too much fun driving them to care.

Me too... or a proper 205gti.

the Golf looks the best option out of the choice of cars there...

I put them in order of excitement / feel.

Handbag syndrome...

True. The unfounded snobbery is delightful to watch though :D

Bangernomics FTW. Old mondeo for sub £1k whilst you save for a decent car.
 sub £1k!!! for an old mondeo!! **** that youll get one for under £500!!

I paid £300 for my old Audi 2 years ago as it was a quattro I thought it would be an ideal winter work bus... 35k and 3 years on its still going strong and ill not part with it.. it has lasted longer than the 53 plate passat I had at the same time.. in fact its been a more reliable car than the 53 plate passat was!! and I paid 2k for that!!

the wife had a newish polo that she used but now she has a company car so there's no point in me worrying about having a newer car...

personally if she has a modern safe car for her and the kids I don't care what I have.. Im happy with something old. I don't do modern cars for myself.

If it wasn't for my wee man being in and out of hospitals I would probably still have an E30 on the drive... just the Audi is cheaper to run and with it being 4x4 its great for the winter..
