Show Us Your Motors!

Sure why not. Find me another in that condition and colour combination. Considering the price of E30 325i Sports now I was happy with the price.

I’ve owned my fair share of E30’s/36/46’s over the years to know what I was getting myself in to and that I was paying strong money for it. But I was happy to do so.

The E46 M3 is on another level, but I didn’t buy the car to drive round a track or anything like that. This car has a specific appeal because of my previous 328i sport from about 12-13 years ago being the same spec. This is arguably a lot rarer than an E46 M3 as well.

I’m very happy with it :)

I've upgraded...

Octavia vRS 2.0TSI 245 DSG

I can’t really explain why but I just wasn’t overly interested in an M3. It’s mainly because I owned the same spec 328 many years ago and just had to have another. Lots of memories in that old car.

I could have bought one on the same money, although admittedly really nice ones are now circa 15+. Aesthetically they have never done too much for me unless they are are in a specific colour combination.

Every now and then you see a really nice spec one come up for sale but because of what they are a lot have been driven hard.

Would love to have found the extra change for this one though I must admit :

In wet they're alright! Dry weather yeah, stock power can be a pain if you want to slide around but for b road bashing it's fine! :)
I would only own a turbo MX5, stock is just gutless even on a A/B road. :/ I can definately see the potential in them, just need more power. It probably doesn't help that I jumped into an MX5 from a Golf R MK7. :p

Jumping from an r to mx5 is probably not a good idea lol! But once you live with one you learn to trash it everywhere and find ways to have fun, it's such a predictable and forgiving car! The only time I genuinely feel that it lacks guts is on motorways and a roads.. once it's up and going I can keep decent momentum through the corners and have much more fun at nsl speeds than I used to in my z4 coupe which felt isolated and "boring" at the speed limit even through tight corners.

On a quiet road then I quite agree. The only times I wished for more oomph in my MX5 was when wanting to overtake on shorter straights on A and B roads. Just not enough get up and go for the shorter sections. Never used it on a motorway as it's really not that kind of car!

Just noticed that E36 is from OldColonelCars. Heard nothing good about them, hopefully you don't need any further assistance from them!

Oh and @rare - You can still get very nice E30 325i Sports for 11K. Thats obscene money for an E36. (But that company are good at trying to inflate prices of things) A friend of mine has a mint Tech 1 manual for sale for £9750, fully restored with a massive folder of photographs and receipts. Tech 2's also come up frequently in very very good condition for that kind of money.

There have been a few stuck up for £15 - £25K recently but that isn't the market average yet, those are just hopeful people. For the good cars and the good prices you need to be on the E30 forums and pages.

That E36 is a 5K car.

The front end on that Octavia is ghastly

In fairness they are a bit....challenged. Would love to say they look better in person but, well they don't!

Pretty hard to complain about having to run around in daily all the same.

Afraid i'm in the "how much!?" bracket for the E36 too, but it'll make money if left long enough and low enough mileage all the same.

Also think it's hilarious how an mx-5 brings out some of the most unlikely forum drift experts (this is partly jealousy as the result of any effort i've ever made in pretty much anything has been a minor two second skid).

Does me a favour in both keeping a ready supply of used parts and inflating values after the kids buy them think they're a hero and inevitably write them off come winter

The R was boring, the rep looked a bit dissapointed that I had a straight face throughout the test drive. Funnily enough he has a track prepped mx5, showed me a few clips and photos, He did let me do a more spirited test drive (lets leave it at that). I really need to test drive a Turbo MX5 with 240-250bhp and E36 with either a 1JZ or Turbo, the 350z has a nice power delivery but it feels quite bulky/chunky... you can feel the weight.

Obviously 360bhp+ seems like a lunacy, although I can see why you would do such a build.

The local garage did an MX5 build with 2.3T engine inside, here's the car they used for testing...

And the final product... Its back outside the garage currently, been there for over a year now, not sure if the engine blew or he got a different car.

11k for a E36 328i! Did it belong to royalty or something? I am terribly sorry but they saw you coming from a mile off. Great condition E36 M3's are the same price!
What?! I swear, I saw it for £4750?! 11k is madness.

I didn’t want an M3:confused:

No one saw me coming a mile off.

I knew I was paying over the odds for it but I was prepared to do so because of the condition and the colour scheme.

A 5k 328 sport would not be in the same condition. It just wouldn’t be. I’ve owned enough of these cars to know that. I’ve never quite understood the rationale with questioning what someone gladly paid for a specific car when they were looking for THAT specific car.

There is a nice looking 328 that’s been up for sale for a while at 5.5k, but there’s also cars circa 8-10k. I paid about a grand over the odds I think being reasonable but was happy to do so.

£9750 for a Tech 1 is under selling it. He should put it up for 15.

I have to say I thought he was a pretty nice guy, but it was a quick transaction. I’m not so foolish to take a 21 year old car back to a dealer if something goes wrong.

It sits garaged now and will be probably do less than a thousand miles a year if that.

It will hardly get driven any how, maybe 50-60 miles a month at this rate.

I’m not too fussed about ‘not driving’ it to maintain its value, it’s just that I won’t really get the time.

I wanted it because I had a near identical Sport a long time ago, and that car had some great memories attached to it for me. The M3 never really appealed in the same way, mainly for that reason.

Yes it’s faster, but I don’t drive fast. And my experience of them (I’ve driven 3.0 and 3.2’s) is that you have to work the to get the best from them.

I know I paid a lot for it, but that’s OK. It’s not an easily repeatable car, and given that they are becoming extremely rare (more than an M3) now I’m not worried that I could never sell it on.

Of course if someone can find me the same car for 5 grand I would be interested to see it because I was looking for some time...

There are a few now that are approaching 10k, whether or not they sell or sell quickly is another thing entirely.

What was your reasoning if I may ask? Why wouldn't you want an extra 100 HP, LSD and everything else associated with M car ownership? You have basically bought a car that cannot be driven for fear of losing value. If that is your game than fair enough.

read back and you will see their explanation..

11k for a an old none M beemer is madness, but their money and you cant argue with someones passion.

to those about the mk5, they were never designed for straight line speed, they didnt become best in its class for overtaking ability now did they ;) and a supercharger would suit them better than a turbo.

My 530i is rarer than an M5 but that doesn't mean it's worth paying more than one for

People paying bonkers money for cars with memories is what's driving these prices, bit of course the memories were with the car you had 11 years ago not somebody else's similar one?
