I think we know how many head gaskets it has before he clarifies :p

I'm not that mechanically knowledged however aren't there such things as exhaust gaskets too?

Booked into BMW for some sort of injector recall

Should be ok, if it has warranty, right?

This is why I'm staying away from German cars at the moment, too much sensors and other things that can go wrong. I will stay with my Jap scrap.

You wouldnt replace a car for an exhuast gasket! The head gasket is what 'kills' a lot of car because it can sometimes cost £1k or so to replace depending on the car. However, this is what most people do, receive a £1000 bill, and assume the answer is to trade the car in at £1500 less than its worth and spend £8k on a replacement. Just... bizarre.

Yea, BMW are paying.

Yeah you wouldn't, generally speaking. However if something kept failing time after time, then you would think about replacing the car. I've never known for a head gasket to fail twice, but if that what's happened then it's just bad luck for his father.

That's good news! I feel sorry for the people who do not have warranty on expensive cars. They must get robbed blind by the Dealers, even some Independents.

Maybe he just wanted a newer car...maybe this gasket was the last straw.

We shall never know. :o

My new car :)

Not to everyone's tastes but I don't care, is good enough for me!

Fox-

I notice you're selling your 335i? I had a feeling you weren't "gelling" with it, but had no idea you want to get rid of it after a couple of months!

What's so wrong with it that you can't stand it anymore?

I'm a 5 Series person. The answer to 'I cannot afford an F10 535i M Sport', it would seem, was not 'So buy an E92'. As fantastic as it is, it isnt quite what I want in ways that a 20 minute test drive just didn't highlight :)

Buying an F10 then?

That's happened to me a few times :p ...or 'issues' arrise that a 20 minute test drive also didn't really reveal.

So what are you going to do in the mean time then ...or do you still have the E39 ?

It's all personal taste stuff - there are no issues as it's not even a 3 year old car, so its all covered by warranty.

I've still got the E39 - it's not worth enough to be sold, so I'll probably always have it somewhere.

Once they depreciate more. In the interim I'm wrestling with the idea of either an E39 M5 or breaking 200k with the 530i :p

E39 M5. Have it for a bit and you can keep the other E39 as well to go about your daily commute if you do any.

At least you can experience what it's like owning an M5.
