Show Us Your Motors!

Oh please, reduce your credibility?

None of the responses to you were that harsh anyway! Nobody had a go at you, just some of us felt it amusing that you felt you were 'young' at 23 and therefore needed to watch the insurance. The mention of larger cars was simply people showing practical examples of insuring more powerful stuff at the same or younger age - it was a response to you claiming that 23 is young and insurance is a pain, not genuine suggestions that you should instead have purchased a Porsche 911 Turbo.

I've just had a quick look back and actually all the posts about it are littered with smileys which is quite unusual and usually not included when people are seriously questioning a purchase decision on here. Infact the only cross words I can see are you taking offence... You certainly didnt get the third degree, infact nobody has even asked you how much it cost or whether it was financed which they usually do when people get the third degree, heck I got that with my last car :p

Heck I even said it looks awesome - because it does. You don't see comments like that when somebody on Motors REALLY gets an interesting and unexpected response to posting a picture of a car :p

This has escalated because you were excessively defensive not because we were excessively harsh. It's really rather mild compared to usual, not sure what all the fuss is about!

Just chill out and move on.

I've seen it plenty of times. You pick apart people's posts and threads and attempt to tell them how bad a deal they got on their vehicle, or how they should have done something else etc etc without knowing enough information to even begin to speculate on their cicumstances. When they do spill, sometimes you're right, sometimes not, but the whole thing is an ugly and rude business that nobody should be amusing themselves with. I wouldn't dream of picking apart somebody's new car, their pride and joy, to their face, and I like to uphold the same standards on OcUK, as generally, it's a fantastic community. We should all aim for that.

The responses weren't that harsh, but you pick certain quotes and statements in a misleading fashion to further the discusison in a direction that you think will lead to an eventual glorious conclusion by yourself. Most people sit by, a few will pipe up and actually attempt to say something that can't be construed as insulting, and that's what a discussion should be here. I don't know why things are allowed to get to this level in the motors section exactly, but it doesn't happen in the other sub-forums apart from the really odd occassion.

Now the mods have asked you to move on, so please let's move on.

Nobody has asked you what deal you got on your vehicle, nobody knows what deal you got on your vehicle, but feel free to beleive thats what I'm doing.

The reason why I've not moved on is because I refuse to not respond whilst you sit here blaming me for some scenario that doesnt even look to have happened. More people than just me posted - and ALL my responses were jovial and reasonably polite, I've even complemented the car on numerous occasions.

I appreciate the mods have asked us to move on - and I'd quite like to just do that - but not whilst you are posting ridiculous accusations because you feel agreived that you didnt get 10 replies telling you how amazing your purchase is. This little episode blew up as a result of you getting narked that people took the '23, so insurance' ball and ran with it as a bit of humerous banter.

Rest of my enormous response edited in an attempt to not turn this into an even bigger mountain over a molehill.

Motors can sometimes be a harsh place where peoples purchases are, rightly or wrongly, ripped apart (Dont worry it happens to us as well) but this absolutely has NOT happened in your case.

No, I'm just nipping it in the bud before it gets to all that. It wasn't that bad yet, but it was going in that direction and I refuse to give you that satisfaction. As I said, I've seen it before in motors many times, you even allude to it in your prevoius post.

No toys out of pram here, just telling you how it is.

Now I'm not going to keep repeating this to explain myself to you. Move on.

No, I'm just nipping it in the bud before it gets to all that.

It was never going to get there. It's a decent car which you bought at a significant discount. It's not a 2005 Clio for £9k from Carcraft. It isn't a list price brand new diesel to save £30 a year on tax. So there was no real potential for it to go the way you wrongly assumed it would. The threads you speak of happen when there is more than just personal choice involved - when the deal is spectacularly crap or when the purchase reasons are entirely ridiculous. This was never going to be the case with your car, only differences of opinion as to what people would buy with a similar budget, which never lead to the 'epic threads'.

So in effect then we are having a pointless little spat over something that hadn't happened but you thought might. Daft.

Stop being so paranoid - there is nothing wrong with your car and nobody hates it. You got off far more lightly than I did when I posted the first pics of the 335 :p

Good idea.

Any mods planned?

OK, look I am pre-empting the seemingly inevitable onslaught, but based on how things go down here, I don't think anyone should be that surprised.

I'm glad that wasn't your intention this time. I know it wouldn't have gone pear shaped from my perspective as I do my research, run the numbers and calculated all the costs, I already know. It's just when a select group try to pick it apart with no respect for the other forum members, I find it insulting, not just to the member, but to the whole community. Whether they're right or wrong is irrelevent and I've made my thoughts clear on this before so I'm not going to do it again.

Moving on, I finally managed to have a play around with all the car functions this weekend. For a Fiesta, it's surprisingly well-equipped. Ford are currently running a promotion to the end of the year that allows you to get free Bluetooth and Voice control on your new car as well, which adds to a pretty decent basic spec on models such as the Zetec and above. The voice control works quite well, it's not quite as good as say, a phone system, but once you've learnt the commands it really is useful if you're driving on the twistys and want your screen demisted, the temperature changed, to make a call and so on. I was impressed by it, but coming from a vehicle that is significantly older, my expectations were obviously not the highest.

If I had to pick one thing out to be a small niggle, it's that the view out of the rear quarter windows is pretty poor. They're not just small, but very high, so if you're reversing and using them it's difficult, and you'll have to make more use of the side mirrors than usual. Front visibility is amazing though, and the driving position is surprisingly high. Great for vision and control, not fantastic for sense of speed.

EDIT: Also managed to up the MPG into the 30's today after a misguided and traffic-ridden trip to Lakeside! I think I can manage 40-45 and higher on long runs, based on what I'm seeing on my commute. Not bad, the car has two sides to it almost. If you give it beans, it certainly goes (and the engine sounds great), but drive like there's an egg under the go pedal and it'll give decent numbers.

You are not going to get an onslaught! Just mild amusement at your insurance ideas thats all!

Thats not happened here. Had you just paid £18k for a Polo diesel because you thought that £200 a year on tax was expensive then yes, it'd have happened, people would have gone mad and the thread would go nuclear. But you've not done that - so it didnt happen.

Getting a great discount on the best supermini you can buy isn't really a very good recipe for epic lulz. Just mild amusement at the idea you are really young, sorry but you are getting old like the rest of us :p

It's brilliant to find a small car with the sort of features which 5 years ago were found only on something like an S Class Mercedes. Whilst it's not suprising to see why - even your iPhone can do voice control - it's still pleasing to see it and its not something you find in much of the competition.

I've noticed that with ever increasing legislation about pedestrian safety, car designers are finding themselves more and more constained over the design of new cars. This means they end up needing to compromise in areas like that simply to be able to get the styling right, given there is now so much they cannot do due to having mandated distances between engine and bonnet, etc etc.

A small price to pay though, look at a 1996 Fiesta and its hard to imagine it being as stylish even back in 1996!

Edit: Given this is show us your motors, show us some interior shots :p

e92? 330ci makes me think it's an e46. I'm guessing you have no claims as well as I was never going to get a quote for less than £1400 on my 335i.

All 330Ci are E46. The E92 dropped the C from the model name. There is little difference in quotes between an E46 and an E92 though. Value makes nothing like the difference people think.

Glad you're enjoying it Alex. May have to take one out as my cousin has a couple on the forecourt.

I noticed the same as you though in my ST regarding MPG. Can really drive like a granny and get it up to high 30/40's. If you have an iPhone and want to be really anal about MPG grab the Road Trip app.

You've all seen it before but I was just looking through some pictures and stopped on this one.

I really like the the low angle of this picture.

In before... OH NOES, BLAK WHEEELZZZZ

Paid £860 for my 330i at 22, and paying around £900 (with non-standard exhaust) for my 335i at 23.

Where do you guys get your quotes from? Admiral/Elephant for me are the only people who actually allow me to get fast cars. Everyone else wants £ridiculous.
