Sid Meier's Civilization Beyond Earth - Alpha Centauri sequel announced!

Question, I really likes Civ 5 but I got crap at it fast, so I gave up. I want to get back into it. I don't have any expansions, is it worth booting up the 'vanilla' version now and getting some time in before this is released or will this feature a basic tutorial as well so I can just start with this expansion?

The price suggests it's as good as a full retail game so I can only imagine it's got a fair amount of content.

Civ5 vanilla is ** Fully star out any swearing **, avoid. Just get the full game and enjoy a true Civ game. ;)

Hmmm, so I should get the DLC for Civ 5 as it is, play it for a month, then get the new one?

But DON'T play Civ 5 without the DLC?

It's unbalaced, the AI does not know how to play the game it was designed for, it lacks content (religion, ideology, spying, civs, late game etc.) and it lacks depth. It's just not fun, the game shines with the expansions.

Both of them? So God of Kings AND Brave New World?

How does the content work? Does it simply add in to the game? Or are there different modes?

sorry for the questions, I just want to make sure I'm investing my money in something that's not wasted.

I'm done pre-ordering games so expecting some good old OCUK member reviews on here please. I am tempted but been burnt once too often in the past 12 months :)

Both of them are needed. I think they have all the small DLC but it doesn't matter if they don't, the expansions are what you want.

I'm not sure about game modes, I only play CiV by choosing the map type/size, difficulty, plus a few other options available in the menu. The expansions add to the core of the game, they make everything better, from better overall AI, to better combat and more long term strategic options.

If you like turned based strategy, it's highly unlikely you won't like and thus waste money on Civ5 with the expasions.

I finished (did the who acendancy/trancendence thing) Alpha Centauri and found it utterly underwhelming, also stopped playing Civ 2 (or 3)when a group of men with bows and arrows killed one of my tank regiments. Not a big fan of the Civ series I'm afraid. :(

It will be the same with Beyond Earth. In which case it would be better to wait until it is on steam as a complete package in the sales.

Kinguin have some good deals in CIV5 + DLC.

CIV5 GOTY edition is £7.81 on there and that includes

Civ5 base game
All 4 Cradle of civ map packs
Babylon Civ Pack
Double Civ Pack for Spain and Inca
Polynesian Civ Pack
Vikings and Denmark Civ pack
Explorers Map Pack

Gods and Kings can be had for £2.40 and Brave new world is £5.94

Grand total of £16.15 for the entire game :)

Alternatively I have sent you a trust about something that may help but possibly not

I replied and thank you :)

As for the DLC, I couldn't find it that cheap... I imagine the packs are not essential really as I won't notice the difference?

I will likely buy the DLC if it can be had for £8.34... I checked all key shop yesterday and didn't see those prices.

Edit: I must have searched the wrong thing. A Brave New World can be had for €4.49 and Gods and Kings for €2.90... Bought them both just now.

Its hard to imagine CIV5 without the brave new world trade routes.... Its just so much money and a better overall experience.

Religion can be meh but it still adds hugely.

Does anyone want to play this in multiplayer with me? Most of my mates don't have the expansions and if they do they prefer pvp where as I prefer co-op.

Add me on steam if you're up for it icex69.

I played it for a while before getting BNW, wouldn't recommend it without it, there's so many little tweaks made to the game that improve it massively.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say this might not be the game for you in that case. ;-)

Back in the old days of CIV i lost a Battleship to a Phalanx :P Its 213 an old Civ Players joke but i actually saw it happen.
