Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

you know if i was going to spend ~£300 on a grinder i wouldn't look much further than: http://www.coffeehit.co.uk/PRD_ProductDetail.aspx?prodid=580

review - http://www.tristanstephenson.com/wordpress/2009/03/08/baratzamahlkonig-vario-grinder/

now coffee nuts... tampers, flat or curved bottom? I've got a flat bottom one-piece reg barber (its very old - they no longer do one-piece tampers)... But i bought my Dad a curved base Reg Barber few years back as a birthday gift and tis lovely.

I'm pretty convinced that the more consistent extractions he gets, (despite having a dualit grinder vs my MC2) is down to the Euro curve base....

Is it worth me getting a new tamper, I'm getting bits of channelling and the like - not much but nearly enough for me need a new tamper - just want one :D shiny shiny

Finally - what the hell is with the ripple bases? http://www.coffeetamper.com/store/pc/products.asp

Trying to persuade the wife that a Fracino Cherup would look nice in the new kitchen.
Also waiting to hear if i can get a ex-demo SanRemo for a reasonable price.
Damn my fatigue thats given me a taste for coffee ;)

I had seen that one and it looks very nice. Seeing that I can't find the Mazzer Mini E for less than £499, it might be an option although there were a couple of issues with it in the review.

At home and work I use a curved bottom tamper. I always get a consistent extraction but couldn't say whether that is specifically because of the curved bottom, as I've not tried a flat bottom one. I suggest you invest in a curved bottom one as a necessary test :D. As for those rippled ones

good stuff :)

Popped into flat white in London for a very nice breakfast and a stunning americano (misses had a flat white which was also tasty despite my dislike of milky coffee) and almost got those two - settled on their house blend instead which is also roasted by Square Mile...

Time to order some work coffee I think however - El Salvador Alaska Bourbon and El Salvador Finca La Fany Bourbon (snigger)

Yeah between Flat White and Milk Bar, they are my two favourite haunts.

I use both a Flat and Euro Curve tamper. I have another couple on order with a friend who is making some for me. Should be a perfect fit for the portafilter basket. Getting another flat and a C-Flat made up, maybe one of each later on.

Ripple bases - decoration afaik.

Well thats a blow... Just went to re order some Indian Monsoon Malbar and its no longer available :(

Try the Brazil Fazenda Inglaterra Acaia Natural or the El Salvador Santa Alina instead.

Both naturally processed so similar to the Monsoon Malabar - lots of dried fruit flavours.

And the other half thought I was mad keeping records of what I've had and what I thought of it. ;)

Need to try this jail break stuff. But not got my bank car at work so will need to wait.

Site looks good oly bit im not keen on is the rate the images on the main/Home page change. could be slightly longer. But then I dont intend to spend huge amounts of time looking there

Just got my hands on my Guatemalan El Bosque Malatitlan (*&%@ing Royal Fail! ) and it's really really good! Not normally the kind of coffee I like, I prefer darker, spicier roasts in general, but this one's so light and fruity, like a fragrant rose wine, if I may wax poetic, that I really enjoyed it! :p

I need a new tamper.....think I'll try a curved one this time.

Can anyone recommend me one without spending silly money? HasBean's are a complete rip off.....
58mm basket I think...I have a red Gaggia Baby Dose. Grinder is an Ascaso i-mini

I so need to get a decent grinder and machine but utterly skint the now :( when I do I want a machine about £250 and a decent grinder.

Until I get the money I may keep out of here to keep my spirits high LOL
