Silo - By Hugh Howey - May 5th

Watched Episode 5 and not feeling much love for the adaptation at all.

They are ruining Solo's character from the book, constantly throwing tantrums and chucking his Teddy, when he was quite calm and collected. I can't recall at what point he revealed his name was Jimmy but at no point did he pretend to be someone else.

18 is also massively altered and "sexed up" from the books. Yes there was dissent but the prominence being given to Sims (I don't even think he was in the book) and
making him Judge
is total invention.

The producers and writers doing the adaptation really need to pull back to the source material IMHO, rather than rewriting much of the story.
I'm just curious, why do you want the story to be identical to a book that you already read and know the conclusion of? I suspect that would not be as fun to watch, no?

I don't read that many books these days, but for books I have read, I like the TV/Film version to differ a bit, otherwise I will know exactly what will happen and when!

(As you can guess I did not read this trilogy and am enjoying the story a lot, as I have no book to compare/refer back to!)

Link please!

Theree are so many fake, editted or AI trailers or episode breakdowns, that i couldn't find it easily on YT.

Know what you mean, Apple doesn't appear to release episode trailers after having a look, the bits I've seen are from a break down video that goes into the main trailer at scenes we haven't see yet that would fit into next weeks episode.

Apologies.

np.

I actually think I found the video you are referring to in the YT search and avoided clicking it! I'll just wait impatiently for 5 more days!

Because ultimately the book is the source material. I don't want a dramatisation that is loosely based on the story or starts to add in elements or plot lines that were never in the original. I'm quite happy for some adaptation or abridgement to fit in the constraints of bringing the story to the screen, but purely IMHO it should be as faithful as possible. If they wanted to up the stakes and add drama, there's plenty of the flashback from Book 2 with the origin of the Silos and what goes on in Silo 1 they could have started to cut in.

In the case of Solo/Jimmy, one of my favourite characters from the trilogy including his back story and they seem to be butchering it.

Notjust Silo that's doing this, The Last Kingdom started going away from the books as did The Expanse and don't get me started on The Winter King.

Like a very large majority of people, I haven't read the book, and for most of the books that are turned into TV (Last of Us, slow horses etc etc), I haven't read the books. So for the vast majority of the watching audience, they are not comparing it with anything, just simply trying to enjoy a bit of TV drama. source material is actually an irrelevance. Clearly people who have read the book, will have a knowledge of a particular character being portrayed in a certain way, but frankly, that's their problem.

In particular, the character in question has apparently been on his own for a really long time, and the fact that he's portrayed as someone who is somewhat off his rocker and with no social skills, would seem very in keeping with this.

Its like watching the LotRs and complaining every time that Legolas does some unbelievable parkour move to kill an enemy, an ability that no other elf is shown as having in the films, and then saying that they invented that whole ability cause it was never in the books. People watching are like "That was great"...end of

I do agree that the pacing of this series seems somewhat slow.

As far as when she injured herself, I'm not entirely sure, was it during the dive sequence, did she snag on something when she pulled herself free of the too-short rope that was attached to the weight ?

It was when

She first entered the derelict silo. The bridgeway to command room was broken and she tried to traverse it with a makeshift swing to cross it. It didn't work and ended up falling down the broken section to hit the water below. On the way down she hit her arm iirc

I just started S2E2, I really hope this won't drag like The 100, Snow Piercer or other post-apocalyptic TV shows.

The annoyances so far for me are the meaningless flashbacks of the past that seem like fillers... I don't mind them, but only if they actually provide some meaningful information. I was a bit annoyed that the outside is still uninhabitable, was hoping that there's life outside the Silo's... I hope the Silo's are connected with eachother.

You should be satisfied with how it progresses. It won't discourage like other shows

Not really mate, solo has his own weird quirks in the book but nothing like he is being portrayed in the tv show and it’s annoying.
