Sim racers - what are you running?

On the VR

My son has a Playstation VR2 headset which he never uses - I see Sony has launched a PC adapter for this now. Will I be able to use this with ACC?
I had a Quest 3 and have moved over to the PSVR2 headset. I liked the quest, but find the PSVR2 to be a little better, once setup and running. There is not a lot of difference in terms of the image, the OLED is maybe marginally better but its not night and day. The PSVR2 PC Adaptor works well as its driven directly from the DP Port on the card, so encoders etc aren't as important and other than needing a £10 bluetooth dongle to stabilise the connection of the handsets everything works well.

I've tried it in ACC, AMS2 and F1 23 alll worked well and my wheel works on the PS5 so GT7 isn't bad either

Yeah, endurance racing is something i want to get back into. My old LFS team used to do a couple and i used to enjoy them, but i mainly used to stick to being on the pit wall and only drive in the 2nd car in 24h races.
One of the lads who used to drive with us in the 2nd car has gone on to race IRL in Le Mans & Daytona 24h, and Bathurst & Sebring 12h, all in GT3 as well as a few other races/series (ELMS which i think is LMP3).

LFS, now there’s a name I haven’t heard in a while. Was that Masters of Endurance championship? I’m trying to remember the teams that used to take part. I always wanted to give it a go but was nowhere near fast enough as those guys were putting in near WR pace for 24hrs.

To keep it on topic of hardware. I don’t know of anyone that got VR working real time like you mention. I’ve only seen it in videos where it’s composited but you don’t see it in VR live.

Yeah, MoE. I used to oversee Mercury Racing (won MoE GT1 in 07/08) doing the website & skins, and officially the slowest driver in the team :D

Those are the original liveries, at some point i plan to do our final scheme (below), and possibly have a go at updating it.

I think this might be what i'd seen a good while back, maybe posted on r/simracing

Yeah, i guess it probably is a composited video rather than actually being integrated. Thats kinda what i'd hope for though.
That said, im not sure its as easy as it seems. The faked version is easy to isolate the non-green screen items and place it in the scene, but if that was done on-the-fly then you'd need an entirely green room to have the same result, otherwise everything beyond the green screen would be visible over the game footage. So the green screen would effectively act as a projection surface only visible through the headset.

there's this as well..

which looks a bit crap.. but you can see the IRL steering wheel.. so hopefully it is possible..

I've just finished building my new GT Omega Prime Lite rig today - Really impressed with the quality of the build, the parts and it's totally rock solid.
I'm planning to replace this 34" monitor with a Samsung Odyssey 49" Neo and maybe add a mouse tray to the setup.

Looking at getting back into this. What sort of rig is the go to for new comers? I’m told foldable rigs are no good if I was a DD wheel setup at some point. Which I do.

Still need to build a PC. Which I haven’t done in over a decade.

My mate runs an 8 Nm CSL DD and CSL Elite pedals with the load cell on a Playseat Challenge. He had to do a few strengthening mods before he was happy with it so I'd always recommend a profile rig if you can afford and have space for one. If you only have space for a folding rig though, the Playseat is doable with a DD wheel.

I'm considering getting the GT Omega Prime Lite; looks a lot more study and customizable.

Just figuring out what sort of PC spec I need to play at 1440p.

I don't know much about the GT Omega stuff, but plenty of people seem happy with their rigs and seats for the money. Aluminium profile is all a bit much of a muchness, honestly. As long as the wheel and pedal mounting solutions are flex-free, it's pretty hard to screw up with profile. I went for a P1-X from SimLab which is complete overkill. If I were to do it again, I'd probably look at the GT1 Evo or equivalent.

You probably don't need anything too crazy. My sim rig is running a 12600K, 32GB of RAM, and a 6900 XT. That powers triple 1440p monitors with no performance issues whatsoever. I'd imagine a decent 6 core CPU like a 5600 / 12600 and maybe a 3060 Ti / 3070 / 6700 XT would power a single 1440p screen without any problems.

In terms of Alu extrusion rigs, the R-Pro at £299 delivered is pretty damn good. I spent more than twice as much for a TR120 and it'd be stupid to suggest its anything like twice as good. The difference your saving is about the price of a good quality seat.

I'd advise anyone with the space to buy an extrusion rig, because its extremely adjustable/customisable and theres a big market for optional addon, leading to competitive pricing. I had a tube frame, it was great, rock solid, but you were limited to options they offered, and stuck with their prices. I havent tried fold-up rigs, but it makes sense if thats what your budget & space restricts you to.

Theres plenty of companies that do extrusion rigs, but i think chances are the R-Pro is the most sensible option for everyone because there really isnt a significant difference between any of them, and i even priced up making my own and its no cheaper (about £300 in just extrusion, before pricing up connector plates, sliders & screws, end caps, feet etc).

The only issue I'd have with rigs like that are that pedal deck can't be height adjusted - only tilted. This is fine for pedals like Fanatec V3's, not so good for more upright pedals.
It's a fairly easy fix with a couple of bits of added extrusion and brackets though.
Other than that, the pedal plate does look it'd have a bit of flex under pressure. Probably not a huge deal though.

Still, great for the money.

Anyone recommend good places in UK for alu extrusion pieces and connectors?
Ive seen a few videos on YT (abroad) where they use what 'looks' like window handles that quick release some of their pieces to slide etc. Not sure what these are called - anyone know these?
