Might well be but there is a good number of laps to go and clearly a 2-3 second per lap difference between new/old tires.

Why put yourself in a race with Ricciardo for 10+ laps when you can leave it to just the end.

Monaco is a far far closer track in most corners. This has longer straights but due to the types of corners, type of track and entries into the corners at the end they aren't good for overtaking. Monaco takes a hell of a lot more skill than here. There are far more run offs, far wider track. Monaco is at least watching people on the very limit of the track trying to stay on it. This track is as boring in terms of tactics/overtaking, but no where near that skill level.

Monaco is a much better race to watch for driver skill and seeing them on the limit.

if you like watching parades that's ok

Singapore GP has far more overtaking and races are generally better

Because if Rosberg is caught at the end he'll be on 2-3 second slower tires a lap... he will not be able to defend with that at all.

AT the current rate even 2.7 seconds Hamilton will catch Rosberg let along Ricciardo.

Hmm, I wonder if they haven't bothered to tell Hamilton that he might have gotten Rosberg too. Hamilton is in the car seeing Ricciardo pull away, so if he thinks that is second he's got nothing to seemingly fight for. Are Merc going to tell him that if he pushes harder he might also get Rosberg? He's not really pushing hard enough to have caught him and I wonder if he just doesn't know that is a possibility because he hasn't been told.

Not even close to unheard of, when tire strategy is wrong, it goes VERY badly.

Canada in lets say 2011 or 2012 maybe. Hamilton pitted from maybe the lead, ALonso and vettel didn't. Hamilton then had 15 laps or so and ended up 4-5 seconds a lap faster. Vettel pitted with a few laps to go and maybe passed Alonso, ALonso ended up losing multiple positions. That is just a stand out one but happens pretty often.

SC now would take too many laps away from the race and probably give Rosberg way cooler brakes and save a little tire life, enough to defend 2-3 laps possibly. SC car 5 laps ago would have killed Rosberg's race badly.
