De Boer hasn't really been at Ajax for very long and turned down the Liverpool job I believe stating he wasn't finished there so I can't see that.

Worked his way up at Ajax, two and a half seasons in charge and three trophies. Young, ambitious manager.

I'm just putting some names out there.

Regardless if that is true he turned us down or not, Manchester United is a much more appealing job to someone with no allegiances to either team if you care about success and money

Yeah, but that could easily have been code for "I really don't want to manage a team that's a shadow of its former self". Man Utd might be a much harder proposition to resist.

That's like turning down a fat ugly bird and then Scarlett Johannson offering you a night o filth.

Fergie started at United a few months before I was born, and now that I've reached 26 he's retiring.

Whilst I don't remember any of the early games (I wish I could, the likes of the Busby Babes United has always been part of life for my and my little bro... I do remember however the Treble winning team, of which the game I remember very clearly, the numerous trophies and upsets that have been part and parcel of being a Utd fan... it's sad to see an end to such a beautiful era.

No doubt it is for the greater good, he couldn't have managed forever.. I just hope that when I look back on the years to come I have moments to remember (and forget) and talk to the kids about (If i have kids)...

Cheers Fergie - you've been awesome :D

everton denied any approach for moyes and since he is under contract the new utd manager is announced in 2 days surely it can't be him?

Be interesting times for ManU now, a lot if pressure on the new boss and if ManU can sustain what they have without the insane spending power if Chelski and Citeh. I never particularly liked Fergie but I respect what he a nieces and I think he is a large part of the reason ManU do well each year.

Interesting times!

I have a vision of cantona coming into old Trafford carried by a flock of seagulls with the clouds parting behind him and a beam of light shining and he says dont worry my children I have arrived
