Sir Alex Ferguson Retires

Why? Contrary to popular belief, Everton actually do play attractive football. It's just that we mix it up as well, using the strengths of Fellaini too with long balls up to him. If you look at some of the goals we've scored this season, some of them have been lovely passing moves. Despite what some people believe, it's not all long ball at Everton, we have more than enough ability on the ground too.

The problem with Everton's style of play is that the defenders always look like Rabbits in the headlights when they get the ball and hoof it and invite pressure back on the team. It's not a prospect I am warming to despite all the glowing recommendations we are hearing on youth development etc etc.

I feel for some of the back room staff because a lot of them may be losing their jobs.

It'd be nice if the manager kept most of them on. Bar Phelan :p

He's a good, solid manager but offers very little else.

The League has been stale for a long time in my opinion and needs big new ideas. You have Arsenal and Manchester United who have had the same managers for 15+ years at least, I think both would benefit from a new, young manager with ambition and creativity who could freshen two clubs stale clubs up.

The only other 'big' (and I use that term lightly as I don't feel they're bit, more apt would be successful) is Chelsea, and Chelsea have no identity as a club so meh, I'm not bothered what they do.

This summer could turn out to be huge summers for all three though.

Laurent Blanc, Klopp or Frank de Boer would all be on my list.

(also; El Diego)

Really? Baines, Coleman, and Jagielka are reasonably good footballers. Anyway, is that not more down to the quality of centre back that Everton can afford? With more money, Moyes could buy defenders who can pass...

Err...who is el Diego? I assume you don't mean Maradona (or Forlan!)?

I don't quite understand why having someone who you could rely on to stay for a number of years is the number one priority. If we stop winning anything for a few years we will lose huge amounts of money and the ability to attract the best players in the world. As long as you are winning things there is no real reason for a manager to leave the club unless they have a falling out.

It's nailed on boys:

That's because training is done. All business as usual so far...

Indeed, I'm not sure why people think Jose will definitely leave after 3 years. He might well stay.

Yes. I'm being pedantic. So I am counting a Champions League "qualifier" as a Champions League game.

Moyes has experience of it. Getting knocked out of it. Didn't Everton then get knocked out of the UEFA in the next round?

Is not a Champions League game though, pedantically or otherwise...It is a Qualifier to enable a team to get to the Champions League proper. So Moyes doesn't have experience of the Champions League as he never qualified to compete.

Because nothing in his very successful track record has so far shown otherwise. If/when he leaves Madrid this season, it'll be the first time he's left a club without having won the title or CL that year.

Some more twitter round up.

Story should be up soon but several sources - from few sides - saying no change in Mourinho's plans to take over at Chelsea this summer.

Borussia Dortmund say Jurgen Klopp will not be succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson at #MUFC. "He has always said he will stay until 2016" #bvb

#MUFC hope to appoint David Moyes by the end of the week. No Friday press conference with Fergie this week

Yes, but he might stay. It's not definite he'd leave after 3 years.

No, but the point is that nobody knows that - I imagine that even Mourinho doesn't know whether he'd stay for a long time or not. Is that a risk that the Utd board is willing to take? In saying that they want somebody for a long time, and not a "hired gun", they're implying that it isn't.

Sky Sports News just showed David Moyes leaving in a black S Class, same car they sent to fetch RvP from London...

Senior sources at the club say there is no prospect of the club appointing Jose Mourinho, the Real Madrid manager, whom they are now convinced is already heading back to Chelsea with a deal in place. Ferguson will not hold his Friday press conference at the Carrington training centre ahead of Sunday’s game against Swansea at Old Trafford, his last home game.

The succession plan at the club is that there will not be major changes to the playing staff. There will also be no compensation payable to Everton for Moyes who has delayed signing a new deal in order, he has said in the past, to explore his options. An announcement on his future could be made as early as tomorrow.
