Sir Alex Ferguson Retires

Is not a Champions League game though, pedantically or otherwise...It is a Qualifier to enable a team to get to the Champions League proper. So Moyes doesn't have experience of the Champions League as he never qualified to compete.

hmmm. I beg to differ somewhat. If that game wasn't part of the Champions League, then please enlighten me as to which competition it belonged?

All still very strange with the Moyes rumours being the accepted solution. I would manage United for 20 years if they wanted but I doubt I would last that long once they realised I had no idea what I was doing.

Europe is the area that United have struggled in recently so hiring someone with no real european experience seems very strange.

I honestly thought that Fergie would retire once we had a world class replacement available to hire. Top class managers are hard to pick off and trying to get one with so little planning seems fated to end in disaster.

I kind of think the opposite - Mourinho and Moyes are both available at the end of this season (Moyes out of contract, Mourinho wanting out), and there are rumblings that Klopp would be open to moving on as well. If ever there was a time to step down with replacements available, it's now.

Surely this is just a big troll? Moyes to Utd?

Moyes has done a decent job at Everton but everything he's done in that job is a complete contrast to what he would have to do at Utd or any side with ambitions to win things. He's made Everton organised at the back and difficult to beat and then plays percentage football in attack - big, physical strikers, long balls and set plays. That sort of football, both style and effectiveness, won't work at Utd or any big club.

If Moyes gets the Utd job and doesn't change then he's doomed to fail and him getting the job on the hope that he can change (and it's only a hope as he's never showed he can play another way) is a huge gamble.

It is a qualifier. The games, if won, allow a team to participate in the Champions League..the losers do not. The Qualifier and Playoff Stages determine your eligibility to compete in the Champions League proper if you can not meet the domestic league place finish criteria. You can beg to differ all you like, the definition of the word Qualifier really says it all.

If you do not qualify, you do not compete and Moyes did not Qualify.

What you are saying is the same as suggesting that if a team plays in the Football League play-offs then they have competed in the league above them...which is nonsense.

Moyes would be available any time of year if United came calling and by all accounts Mourinho was available to talk to months ago about this and has as a result chosen to head back to Chelsea.

I kinda hope we don't take Klopp from BD as they are already losing a good few of their top players and I would like to see them be able to continue to compete in Germany / Europe.

Sky Sports news reporting Moyes is on his way to Chelsea

.......to watch the Chelsea v Spurs match tonight.

One reporter also said that there has been no contact between the clubs.

Guardiola is bringing Messi, Iniesta, Schweinsteiger, Muller and some random scouse lad with a lamp. True story.

You have to think that Moyes is pretty much done

The way the rumours have picked up are identical to just before Utd made the announcement about Fergie. Can't see it being anyone else now

:(

Can't see Moyes doing all that well standing in the shadow of Fergie from the boardroom.

Fair play to Fergie you cannot deny the talent he has.

It's done, well according to TalkSport.

I imagine this is not something that Ferguson has just decided to do. I reckon this has been months in the making and planning, with his successor picked and secured quite some time ago.
