And then subsequently did it ;D

To be fair, the comment was made the year before they sold Ronaldo. It was aimed at the previous board at Madrid.

Fergie had an issue with the Real Madrid board/chairman Calderon, who was then replaced by Perez, who Fergie didn't have any issue with.

Hasn't Moyes admitted he would like to manage in Germany? So what longevity could he bring to utd?

This is cool. Something you'd definitely want him signing if you are at the game!

Gill says,

He (the next manager) needs the required football experience in terms of domestic and European requirements, so it is a small pool."

Surely that rules out Moyes? Close to zero experience in Europe.

I know some Utd fans don't like the idea, and Chelsea fans utterly hate the the thought of it, but Mourinho for 1-2 seasons could be a great transitional move for Utd. The next manager is going to be under the biggest shadow possible and whoever it is will suffer for not being Ferguson. Mourinho has the ego to cope with that pressure and the ability limit the loss of momentum that the team will likely suffer for the immediate future. He wouldn't be loved, but that would be fine as the next manager then won't be under quite so much pressure and can build the next generation with a more positive feeling that the club is moving on.

On a different note, who are the worst possible candidates that Utd fans would truly hate to get the job? Benitez? Harry Redknapp? Mark Hughes? Steve McClaren?

To do what? Finish above Everton because they're losing the Moyesiah? It'll be a long time before we have anything like a this is our year coming.

ManU haven't held us back or Ferguson, Liverpool FC have.

Agreed 100%.

This is the first time I've read a comment from a LFC fan, who is accepting that LFC themselves, are to blame for their gradual slide out of the top 3. When I make this sort of comment, I normally get a horde of LFC fans calling me names.

With regards to Man Utd: the owners have stated that they want someone who can win them trophies AND play attractive football. Mourinho doesnt play attractive football. So, I'm not sure if Mourihno will go to Man Utd. For sure, he will win them trophies, but I can't see him stay their for long. In an ideal World, I'd want Mourinho to be signed up to a long term contract (minimum 5-10 years) and being given free reign to manage. However, my gut feeling is that we will end up with Moyes...which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

One things for sure - we will find out next year just how important Fergie was to the team.

Are Man Utd like Brazil, ie. stick any manager or group of Brazillian players together and they will go a the World Cup final OR are they like Inter Milan - while they have a star manager, they win the league and Champions League and without the star manager, they completely fall apart?

If Man Utd slump badly next year, we may even see Fergie return for an interim period, until a new permanent manager can be found.
