Not sure how getting rid of Phelan fits in with Fergie's vision of having the club full of ex-players, of course if Moyes brings in Phil Neville as his number 2 I could live with that :)

Shame about Eric Steele, he's obviously been a help to DDG :(

Has any assistant under ferguson went on to do anything?

When I said that I was told they had all been more successful than moyes. :D
Only Mclaren is arguably more successful. I don't count titles as assistants. If that meant anything they would have all had better careers after working under fergie.

Quite a few of them have been successful elsewhere (title winning etc)

Walter Smith probably being the most successful

Smith was there for 3 months for the end of a season and I think you will find he had a pretty successful career prior to joining. Only in the semi pro league while spending on transfers than any club in scotland or england but still plenty north of the border would consider that successful :p

How is Mclaren arguably more successful?

Because his time with England wipes out anything else he does ever ;)

I'm not convinced on the strength of the Dutch league in comparison to the premiership. He did well in cups with Boro but they never really did that well under him in the league. I'm just not that convinced about him :)

The reaction to Steve Round's apparent appointment has been a bit insane, considering he's only an assistant to Moyes.

Moyes usually does all the coaching where Round is purely there to help.

Our players seemed to get on with him well, plenty of pictures of him in training with Baines, Distin, Fellaini and Jelavic all having a good laugh online - can't see anything wrong with it to be honest.

From Utd's side, I don't think its anything about who Moyes is bringing in as much as who Utd are letting go - some very highly thought of (training) talent.

Obviously there may be Everton fans sad to see them go, but once Moyes was appointed that was always likely to happen

Whilst I haven't read anything on the subject myself you can bet if there are those out there criticising the appointment they'll be the same ones who have stuck it to Phelan all these years also.

Like I said previously on the Meulensteen subject no one knows what these people actually do at the club but for some reason people latch onto their favourites and act all disappointed if something happens they don't like.

As has been said before its presumably only natural for Moyes to want to bring in his own staff from the off and its no surprise that they're people he's worked with at Everton, the only thing that could be worrying by doing so is what has been argued against Moyes' own appointment from the start and that's that we end up turning into Everton. It's a step up for all of them and no one knows yet of they're up to it...

At the end of the day it will make the enormous task that Moyes has infront of him a little easier by having those people he knows well from Everton (and presumably trusts) along side him.

It could be argued that if the same back-room staff continued with Moyes being the only change, any early success would be put down to them rather than the new manager.

By the same token, if they end up having a 'mare - it might be seen as "too much too soon / too many changes " etc etc

Only time will tell

Seriously WHO CARES??? I say again absolutely no one knows what he did at the club and hell lets say he was fundamental in how the first team lined up/played didn't most on here spend most of last season bitching about the performances? So couldn't this be a good thing?
