Six years in prison for a shag on the beach?

A lot of countries turn a blind eye to this kind of thing, for example you aren't allowed to cohabit in Tunisia if you aren't married but I've been with my gf and done that and I'm sure many others have too.

Sex on a beach is pushing it a bit far in a Muslim country though.

She has also been charged with being drunk in public and assaulting a police officer. It sounds as if she was being a bit of a yobbish ****. They should throw the book at her.

According to the article I read, she was drunk and then caught mid-action on the beach, but was let off with a warning.

The policeman then came back later and caught them at it again, and tried to arrest her/them.

She then went a bit crazy and hurled abuse at him.

So its just another typical headline

It's a country where you can't sit down in a hotel bar before you are approached by a prostitute but if a couple in a commited relationship who aren't married live together they are breaking the law.

I absolutely hate Dubai. Some of the other gulf states are bearable but Dubai is a tacky building site with ugly double standards just below the surface.

Cohabitation is illegal, but Dubai, I suspect, is more than happy to take everyone ones holiday money when it comes to unmarried couples visiting?

I'm sure they'd take my money if I went on holiday there and stayed in a hotel room with my GF?

Surely I shouldn't be able to book a room for myself an girlfriend?

While I'm in no way defending their behaviour, and of course am all for following the rules of another country while there... The article does highlight a slight double standard...

1) she wasn't on holidays she works there therefore she should know better

2) she was drunk and assaulted a police officer.

Sounds like your typical chav abroad. Hope they throw the book at her.

Act civilised and you have no problem there.

She faces a sentence of 3 months to 6 years for what she did (sex in public, drunk in public, assaulting a police officer)

I know a girl who just been there on holiday & she said she's going back there next year - I'm going to show her this story & it'll put her off going there for life! :D

Apparently in Dubai they're strict on everything. You can leave a wallet full of money unattended in a club and bet your life on it not being stolen.

People have gone to jail for having almost microscopic amounts of cannibis in their luggage from when they fly over to Dubai and they're searched.

It's not a case of respecting the laws as such, its that you should damn well know about the laws before travelling and if you don't like it, don't ******* go there.

Their laws are hideously strict but why do so many people go there if it's that bad?

The laws in that country are pretty harsh and it keeps most people in line. I don't agree with most of their sentencing but when in Rome...

Don't like it? Don't go there.
