Six years in prison for a shag on the beach?

Deserves it tbh. What a **** moron. These people shouldn't be encouraged like in our country and Magaluf and all the other hell holes on earth. Being a **** is not cool mkay.

And what a retard after 3 years of being there and still being that stupid. Loose stupid woman. Buh-bye now.

They should throw the book at her.
Is that the equivalent of stoning for people with degrees under Sha'riah law? :p

I don't think she'll get it all that bad tbh, your government will find some way to beg/bribe the Arabs into releasing her (ironically just watched The Bishop's Gambit episode of Yes Prime Minister last week - it was the only episode of both series that I had never seen before, now I have gathered them all! )

I too disapprove of the double standards and overly-harsh punishments in their laws, but just as you expect people to respect your laws while living in the UK so she should've followed theirs.

Stupid woman, stupid country.

Empathy? You gotta respect the laws of the land. She didn't - and she's going to jail. Why should I empathise with that?

So you support homosexuals being executed for breaking the law? Just because something is law doesn't make it right.

Lol please, the two are incomparable situations. She had sex in a public place. She acted in a daft way by either doing that - or by drinking too much such that she didn't know what she was doing (even in this country that's no excuse - you're still culpable for your actions while drunk). Being gay is a whole different situation and just because I support her being punished doesn't mean I support homosexuals being executed, i.e. it doesn't mean because I accept one of their punishments I accept them all.

Just because something is law doesn't make it right.

Where did I state/imply that this isn't the case. I'm saying that she broke the law through her own stupidity and thus it's dictated that she's to be punished.

She could have said no or even got a room but she drunkenly did it in a public place and got caught - why should I feel sorry for her?

You don't have to feel sorry for her if you don't want to. I feel for her because she has been socialised in the UK with UK norms. She got drunk and was a stupid slapper, slid back in to Newcastle on Saturday night mode and behaved badly as is the want of many of our scrubbers, now she faces an extraordinary punishment and must be in a very unhappy state of mind. I don't think she was right or clever to break the law there particularly as she was resident and therefore had some understanding of the regime, but I do feel sorry for her.

6 years is ridiculous...they should take into account where she is from...she aint an arab or muslim so shouldnt have the same law applied to her.

but assaulting the police officer...well thats just dumb on her part.

So by your own admission, you shouldn't have to respect all the laws of the land.

One of the things she was charged with was having sex outside of marriage so even if she got a room she would have been breaking the law. Her sentence is going to be longer than it otherwise would have been because of that stupid law, which isn't right.

Oi, newcastle on a sat night is awesome! Loose women rock, haha! :p She lived in the country 3 years, I am sure she knew the risks if she got caught - this probably increased the thrill of the experience. I'm from Newcastle as well, the minute you step of the plane in Dubai you realise you are in an entirely different culture and need to abide by their customs/laws. People who are too dumb to realise this deserve what they get. Assaulting a police officer though is unnecessary and she deserves what she gets.

Dubai insanely barbaric > UK insanely lenient?

Interesting question.

I could argue many points for and against but this is GD so I'll just say no but it's a close one :p

which isn't right.

You're right, it's very wrong. However when you go to a country with laws like that you need to respect that. That's the reason I will never step foot in that country.

Just one more reason I will never go to the UAE

Its just one more reason I would like to go their on holiday. Chances of running into drunken chavs in Greece, spain, england, anywhere else who behave like idiots and throw up on beaches and leave condoms everywhere, about 99%. Chances of running into really badly behaved people IN Dubai, incredibly small, chances of getting into serious trouble when abiding by the laws and acting responsibly, very very small, chances of not having holiday ruined by bunch of drunk idiots in hotel making noise, starting fights in streets, very small.

I can't see a reason to not want to go, you mean, if I meet a bird I would have to take her to my room rather than have sex on a beach, oh no, I'm crying. I have to make sure i don't take DRUGS THAT ARE ILLEGAL HERE like weed, over there, thats going to be a massive sacrifice seeing as there isn't an Airport in the world I'd want to go through with weed, seeing as you always go through two airports with both in different countries. I guess from anywhere in Holland, to any other airport in Holland is the only time you might want to risk it.

THis supposedly incredibly strict culture, where drinking Alcohol is completely against their religious beliefs, so have given certain hotels the right to serve drinks to foreigners, really strict. SO strict about their laws they let the chick off with a warning the first time, and she just threw it in their face. There isn't a country on this planet you should actively disrespect the police, and thats exactly what she did by doing the same thing again. But they are so strict, that they gave her a chance, most likely exactly because she was foreign? SO they gave her a break, she threw it in there face and then made it worse for herself and somehow that makes them strict.

people really need to think before they speak, you can get done in the UK for having sex in public, if a police officer here found you, let you off, you actively irritate said copper by repeating what you were doing, getting mouthy at the cop and breaking the law again. You're almost certain to get done here for that.

I'm getting really confused what does the UAE's homosexuality laws have to do with the case in question? You've just plucked it out of thin air for a very strange comparison.

Edit - I said that I didn't agree with the punishment for being gay. I said nothing about respecting or disrespecting the law.

One of the things she was charged with was having sex outside of marriage so even if she got a room she would have been breaking the law. Her sentence is going to be longer than it otherwise would have been because of that stupid law, which isn't right.

Perhaps she might not have been caught then. She broke the law, and in a very public manner too. I still won't feel any sympathy for her.

+1, I agree 100%. Nothing more to be said.
