Sky Broadband Unlimited (20Mbps) but getting max 1.7mbps

Mmm maybe they did'nt set one up, its not a necessity, guess try giving sky a call then with all the info you have, and if they ask u can say u where asked to call as ur parents where busy.

The lady on the phone ended up getting me into command prompt and typing in 'netstat' and told me to count the programs. I counted 17 and she said that they're all using up my bandwidth? I only just got my new pc two days ago lol

Can anyone tell me how many programs they've got lol..

I phoned back and it's the same person again :@ but I told her that I got rid of all my programs except 2 (I didnt really) and she said that she doesn't know what to do, she's the only one there apparantly, so she told me to call back tomorrow.

Which I guess I will do...

Is the sky helpline even open tomorrow?

Try this number its a direct number to there broadband tech department 08442 410 515

You will get a regular tech guy, just explain to them that you want ur speed checking and so on, if they don't really help to much, ask to be put throught to tier 2 (these are the really tech guys).

Edit: Just called them, they sound much more techier :), but, they said that my dad hasnt set a password so they wont be able to help me until my dad sets a password, hopefully when my dad's back, ill call them again. The lady on the phone said they close at 11pm ;D

well good to hear your moving in the right direction, so yeh guess its now wait for dad, and maybe sort it out tomorrow.

And btw those u got through to are the proper broadband techs, the free number is just normal sky.

Saying that if you get through to tier 2 tech, be ready to have ur head filled with a lot of tech talk, those guys really know there stuff, and will sort you out.

Im fairly sure you will have a much better connection shortly, or atleast tomorrow when they can properly help you once ur dads sorted what he needs too.
 
I called the free number this afternoon and the guy I spoke to was very helpful, manged to get my issues sorted...

Just tell them that your router is only connecting at 2mb and you believe you've been capped...

I allways call that as its free for me, as im using there phone service too, not sure if u are, if not then it will be upto 5p pm

Basically, the max my line can handle is about 5mbs, I think they did pretty well? What do you think? And they said I dont have to plug it in to the master socket which means no messy front door area (:

Im getting windows 7 this week, but I only have xp = format drive.

I have to download aion online again which would usually take me 12+ hours now at this rate, id be done with it in 4 hours.

With that attenuation/snr you should be synced at 8 meg on a regular adsl, adsl 2+ should be ~11m at 6db. I may have missed something afew pages back, but why would you're max speed be 5 meg with those line stats? Leave it in for 3/4 days and see where it goes, but which are you max or llu (2+)? Either way you should be getting at least another 3 meg.

Ideally you need to try a second router and see if the stats match (i.e. make sure your router isn't faulty), if they are the same then there's something wrong further out, profile probably.
