Deffinatly call sky, and try ur best to get put through to teir 2 tech support. They are the guys you want to talk too.
Here is my stats this morning:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 5120 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 46.0 db 27.5 db
Noise Margin 11.1 db 14.0 db
As you can see your Line Attenuation both up and down are lower then mine (lower the better, means ur closer to the exchange).
So being plugged into the socket u currently are in, there is a lot more speed to come from that line, sky has an automatic thing call DLM (Digital Line Management), that when you first use them, automaticly configures your line for fastest and most stable speed.
Iv been told by sky and Bt that my line can only handle 3.5meg (thats from both tech support, sky's site says 4meg, BT's says 3.5meg, but as you can see i finally got sky to set it higher, took a few calls though, persistance is the key.
I would suggest you ask your parents to give sky a call, and mention that you are not happy with the speeds you are getting, and to ask them to retest, especially with the router plugged into that socket you are getting those high noise margins from. Good luck and i hope u can get it sorted, just keep pestering sky, there tech department is good, just be paitent with them, and you will get what u want eventually, u may not get 20meg, to far from exchange, but easily over 5meg thats for sure lol.
