Sky Fibre Optic

Well I finally managed it after around 3 hours of trying.

I followed the guide step by step and didn't see it once. I only managed to get it by sheer luck.

Looking around on the Sky User forums it seems some others have had issues.

Well I'm considering going back to adsl, I like the idea of speed but the latency is bloody annoying & to top it off openreach have now changed what my maximum speed is. DSLCHECKER now states max of 29mb down from the initial 43mb, this speed is for 3 houses on my street feed by the same pole. I feel like 600 meters via the cable accoring to openreach does not equate to that mass speed drop. 60ms latency is not what I signed up for when I used to get 25ms to 30ms, I'm giving it another week then I asking sky to go back over. The last openreach engineer that visited said the line card in the fibre cabinet was testing as faulty and he contacted his tech support who said they had reset the card. Since then the openreach info has changed!!!!

my fibre experience has been dire and screws up online gaming, mass download speed vs usability for gaming... gaming wins

Fibre Pro activated this morning, sync at 80/20 (for now, expecting it to drop to around 65-70). Tried to enable static IP, but get the following:

"Your exchange does not currently support static IP"

Does anyone know if they're rolling it out gradually or what?

My Static IP worked right away.

Mine dropped to 66/17 ish but I did have lots of disconnects in the first day due to me restarting the hub a few times.

Spoke to them via Chat and they basically said they're rolling it out still. The dslchecker said between 50 and 70, so I'm expecting it to settle somewhere in the middle - anything else is a bonus :)

how easy would it be to setup a Billion 8800NL, I tried to get my username and pass from the sky sr102 but I seem to fail constantly. Oh I have not bought the billion yet...

This is the TBB graph:

It started around 2220, restarting the router didn't work, I gave it 20 minutes and in the end I restarted the modem which brought it back in. During the outage, DNS was resolving, I could ping sites without issue, whatsapp on my phone via broadband was okay, as was Skype and TS3, however anything else failed to load, web pages etc. Pretty odd, however I'm glad it went back to normal.

Weather seems to have give my line a kick, now syncing at 60/20. Does anyone have an idea where it might settle based on these stats?

Code:
Broadband Link Downstream	Upstream
Connection Speed	59695 kbps	19999 kbps
Line Attenuation	18.5 dB 0.0 dB
Noise Margin 7.8 dB 8.8 dB

Just ordered Sky Fibre, only just been made available on my estate.

Been on Sky ADSL unlimited for years syncing at 10055kbps for £7.50 a month.

I could upgrade for an extra £2.50 a month to 40Mb fibre unlimited !!

I was surprised to be told I do not need a new sky router, does this sound right ??? I've had my current sky router for well over 3 years.

The guy said give it 10 days and you should see speeds start to rise on there own.

Any advice/information welcome :)

Thanks Ben

The SR102 which is the black one you'll see on the website will work with Fibre as well as ADSL, the older white SR101 will not and the much older Dlink and Sagem ones won't either.

Mine says Sagemcom on the underneath, its over 3 years old.

Logging into the router shows theses details:

Manufacturer
Sagemcom

Model Number
F@ST2504n

Firmware Version
7.16a4N_UNI

ADSL Firmware Version
A2pD038m.d24h

Do you think I should call Sky back and double check if I need a new router ??

Thanks Ben

Yes, that won't work with fibre.

I didn't need a router as I already had an SR102, but they forced one on me so I have a spare if they won't give you one!

First step is to extract the username/password, I used The Sky User forum to help me.

I bought the 8800NL and it was simple to setup. Getting the below speeds on Fibre Pro

In the WAN setup section, you'll need an IPoE interface

And in there you'll need certain options as below. Obviously you need your own username/password.

Been very stable for me, WiFi been reliable as well, more so than the SR102, overall it's been a good buy. Plus I can take it home when I move and replace the BT Openreach modem and Homehub meaning less clutter.

Called Sky and I am getting a new router :p

No idea why the guy before said no need for one, when he's placed the order and its in process.

Hopefully get the router next week and be good to go.

Waiting game now.

Thanks for your help :)

So the new Sky router turned up this morning, SR102-C router.

The letter that came with it shows Friday 6th Feb as activation date.

I had to connect it up though and see if it worked, I was with sky previously for my 8Mb ADSL unlimited so it not like im changing ISP.

The internet came to life straight away but its sycing at the old speed still :(

Do I have to wait for the activation date to get the possible 40Mb on fibre ? or will the speed slowly increase over the next few days ?

Thanks Ben
