Sky Fibre Optic

Depends on the problem too. Router type would only likely show up if we run a service test and even then it requires an extra click to see.

I've been in live chat 3 times now and they've ran 'tests' against my line. I don't know which tests but they never mention anything other than to say it all looks fine.

I'm still miffed as to losing 20mb download speed overnight but the agents on my chats are adamant that my speed isn't being limited by DLM.

get on the phone to sky/chat etc.

Got Sky fibre pro (80/20) for £20 a month with no activation after speaking to them. 12 month contract. will shift it after 12 months probably.

Getting around 63/20 currently.

I got the same offer. They also waived 12 months line rental because I said I was leaving and going to BT. :)

OK so with the long weekend I had a look at fixing this yesterday. The Rotten Tomatoes site will load but it takes ages and when it does load the site is rendered without CSS. I've had a quick look at the page source and have found a link to a CSS file, stored on a Cloudfront page. I can load the CSS file fine.

On my phone the mobile site renders fine but I can't work out how to turn 3G off and go through wireless. I use a Vodafone SureSignal device anyway so it's likely that my 3G signal is coming through my broadband connection anyway.

I got my MBP out and tried the site. On my wireless connection it loads fine and when I turn the wireless off and use the Thunderbolt network adapter to connect the MBP to my desktop switch, same switch as my PC is connected to, again the site renders fine.

I did try taking my Asus RT-N66U out of the loop by replacing it temporarily with my original Sky Sagem box in but my PC couldn't find a network connection!

Surely the fact that my MBP can render the site fine on both wired and wireless connections to the same switch as my PC (wired) and same Asus device (wireless) implies that the PC is where the problem is? What settings on my PC can I reset or flush to try to solve this irritating issue?
Fixed this blasted issue finally! I was about to post a thread in Windows asking for some help when I thought I'd check how FF compares to Chrome and IE when rendering the page. IE told me that the page was only showing secure content and it looked awful. I told IE to load all content and reloaded the page and it looked as it should. Repeated the same trick with FF and Chrome and everything is back to normal now. :)

i'm interested in upgrading from sky broadband & just gave them a call asking what sort of deal they could do (whether on the regular fibre or pro) - they stuck to the advertised offers - regular £10 for 6 months, then £20; pro £30 & no reduction available.

Said i'd think about it. Maybe it's because it's the weekend & others are also asking - will give it another go & ask again next week some time. Will also have a look what bt & virgin are offering.

call them and ask for your MAC code - they will get serious quickly when they know your going to leave them.

Except if you have sky broadband you're 'unbundled' so won't need a MAC and they can't/won't supply one? I would certainly mention other providers offers. Do some research.

thanks (you too booyaka) & yeah, was doing the research :) - BT Infinity 2 is slightly cheaper but plusnet have a better offer at the moment (equivalent product). End result, i gave Sky cancellations a call, explained the other offers around & if they could more or less match them (otherwise makes sense for me to leave) & got sky fibre pro for £20 per month, no activation fee :)

Good result all round then. :)

Can you use the SR102 as a router only and use a HG612 as a modem?

Picked up a HG612 off eBay, flashed it to the correct firmware, have extracted the username and password off the Sr102 and input them into the modem but it doesn't seem to all play nicely together?

Need to ask them to listen to the call, see what was offered. £27 does seem cheap but not amazingly so. Fibre is normally £20 and Line Rental £16.40. Half price line rental would get you somewhere in the £27 range so it's not unheard of.

That'll do. :D

Am I correct in saying that you don't use VCI and VPI numbers when you're on fibre?

I'm monitoring my Sky Hub to see when it changes over to fibre. It's just disconnected but seems to have gone back to ADSL but at higher speeds than I've ever seen but no where near what fibre should be.

Mine just switched over seamlessly. Connected the SR102 up the night before and it worked on ADSL then automatically switched over without a reboot when they fibre went live. These are the log excerpts :

Code:
Jun 2 11:37:21 syslog: Line 0: ADSL link down
Jun 2 11:37:24 syslog: Clear IP addresses. PPP connection DOWN.
Jun 2 11:44:11 syslog: Line 0: xDSL G.994 training
Jun 2 11:44:26 syslog: Line 0: VDSL G.993 started
Jun 2 11:44:38 syslog: Line 0: VDSL2 link up, Bearer 0, us=9999, ds=39998
Jun 2 11:45:10 syslog: ptm0.1 - WAN link UP.
Jun 2 11:45:10 syslog: Received valid DHCP lease from server. Connection UP.

Can you just have a look on the Sky Hub webpage and see what it says under Maintenance > Modem? Do you use VCI and VPI numbers?

As an aside, it doesn't look I'm being changed today after all. 15/6 is the switch date now.

Modem
Modem Status Connected
DownStream Connection Speed 17233
UpStream Connection Speed 1408
VPI 0
VCI 38

I've never had ADSL2 speeds like that in the decade or so since I've had it which made me think it was fibre albeit at a really low speed.
